•Margo•

I look into the mirror. Today is the day my life changes.

NOT.

It is very rare for me to see my reflection, and when I do see it, I see a stranger. That blue eyed girl looks nothing like me. Those brown curls... They do not belong on someone who does not care for them.

At least I'm not suppose to find joy in the beauty on my face. I live in abnegation after all.

My younger sister, Adelaide grabs the scissors, and before she can cut the first strand my father Marcus appears.
"I can do it, if you want."
He offers. But my gut reminds me be never offers anything, they're all commands. My sister hands him the scissors and he stands behind me. I flinch when he grabs my hair, but he doesn't notice. "Leave Adelaide," he says firmly, and she quickly walks out of the room.

"Remember what I told you to do. You get the bread and throw yourself in front of the little girl. Got it?" He speaks as he snips my hair.

He cuts my hair up to my shoulder blades, but my hair will need to be cut again within a week.

I nod and say "So I can have abnegation as my result and I can stay here."

"Well you don't have to stay." Marcus says, while his eyes stare me down saying the opposite. A little bit of rebellion Spurs through me as I ask "Then why did tell me what to do for the simulation?"

I expected him to yank my hair down to the ground, taking me down with it, but instead he clenched in his hand instead. "I did it to keep you safe. Don't question me Margo."

I know he told my older brother what to do. And he'll probably tell Adelaide. I plan to follow in my brother, Tobias's footsteps.

Marcus twists my hair into a bun, making sure not a hair is out of place.

He then sits down in front of me on his knees. He stares me down with the same dark blue eyes I have. "You don't have to stay. But Adelaide would miss you."

Of course, he played the Adelaide card. He knows so well that she is the most important person to me in my life. And he hates her with passion for it.

"How selfless of you, to be thinking of her," I remark. He slaps me and says "Don't start. You need to learn to keep your mouth shut."

My face remains turn, but my eyes skip to my reflection. I stare at the red handprint that is there.

"Did you hear me Margo?"

"Clearly"

Adelaide and I like to walk to school. We could always ride the bus, but we enjoy the fresh air. Marcus doesn't question us because we say walking means more space on the bus. Which is perfectly selfless for him.

Adelaide hates lying. She's not very good at it, but I'm a pro.

Her blonde hair was falling from her bun, and she was trying to pin back the loose hairs. "Do you need help Adelaide?"

She shook her head, but I still stopped her. "You're ridiculous, you know that?" I mumble under my breath as I fix her hair.

She and I have the same body shape as our mother, short but curvy. But that is where our similarities end.

She had straight honey blonde hair, and foreign green eyes. It's a shame Adelaide has few memories of her.

"I can't depend on you anymore. Especially now that you're leaving," my sister says when I'm finished.

She was right, in the case scenario that I leave. But I don't know if I can. The image of Marcus having to do her hair everyday makes me shiver.

I want to leave and join my brother, but I can't leave Addy.

"If I leave," I mumble and start walking again.

"You're leaving, it's not optional. We'll meet each other again in 2 years," she reminds me. Adelaide was fourteen, but she was going to turn fifteen in two days. The day after I'm gone. If I leave.

One year ago Tobias left. One year ago, I said the words that spill out of Adelaide's mouth. I am such a hypocrite.

"I don't know if can leave you...." I whisper to myself.

Adelaide does not hear me.

When we arrive at school, I am greeted by my best friend Jason.

Jason, although being raised in abnegation, is not selfless at all.

He talks about himself, a lot. He laughs it off as an excuse and says "I'm letting you practice be selflessness sweetie, appreciate."

The rest of the abnegation find him obnoxious. But me and Addy find him hilarious.

"Hello pretty girls, how are y'all doing this fine evening?" He greets us. Addy giggles and blushes, while I just roll my eyes.

"You do know it's still morning right?" I ask.

He rolls his eyes and says "Whatever, just wanted to see that cutie smile," while winking at my sister.

She raises her eyebrows in shock and I say "You better stop it with this normal flirting or my father is going to kill you."

Jason groans and says "But the way our people flirt is so stiff. " He used the nickname for he people of our faction.

I then hear the heavy sounds of the train from when the dauntless arrive. I always tried to avoid staring at them when I was younger, because my curiosity should not get the best of me. But when my brother left to go join them, me and Addy started to purposely study their movements, when they jumped off the trains.

Last year a girl twisted her ankle jumping off. I sat by her side when Addy went to go get the nurse.

Adelaide nudged me and said "It's time to go Margo," and I slowly started walking inside.

Today our classes were cut short today because after lunch we take our aptitude tests. A test I'm going to cheat on.
