Chapter 2: So Contagious

(Inspired by the song "So Contagious" by Acceptance- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxrc99S09wI)

Set during Scream 2. Both Dewey and Gale's feelings are conflicting about each other.

"How do you know that my dimwitted inexperience isn't a merely a subtle form of manipulation, used to lower people's expectations, thereby enhancing my ability to effectively maneuver within any given situation?"

Dewey's words replayed in Gale's head. It was obvious he had been rehearsing them in case they were ever to cross paths again, but she didn't have the heart to point that out.

He had looked and sounded really hurt. Why he was hurt, she couldn't quite figure out. It was just a book for Christ's sake! She had to entertain her readers! And well, Dewey wasn't the smartest guy in the world, but he was by no means stupid. What happened in Woodsboro was VERY similar to a classic slasher movie. A dimwitted cop? That was almost as much of a staple as the female protagonist. Exaggerating Dewey's personality merely emphasized the story.

This was not the reunion she expected. She expected a hug and maybe even a kiss. A lunch and a "how have you been?", not his anger toward her. She just wanted to pick up where they left off. Well, not exactly where they left off. She didn't want the grieving Dewey, she wanted the sweet Dewey she had gotten to know before the events that would be mourned in Woodsboro forever.

If he was going to be angry toward her, wouldn't it have been polite for him to at least let her explain? Not only what happened back in Woodsboro, but the mindset she was in when she was writing the book and her life since then. She wanted a chance to plead her case. She wanted a chance to...nevermind. she wanted a chance to...love him.

When she was flirting with him in their few encounters, she wasn't just trying to get information from him. Well, at first she was using her smooth ways and gorgeous self to get information from him, but after awhile she began to genuinely like the guy. He seemed so fascinated by her, the way she walked, how she talked. When he smiled at her, her nerves tingled with joy. Looking into his eyes, she could see a young, innocent version of herself.

Even now, he looked at her with such disgust and the corners or his mouth wouldn't even curl, and she was still so infatuated by him. She just wanted him to hold her and whisper in her ear. But he wouldn't even listen to a word she said.

What if she had the chance to tell him how she really felt about him? Could she do that? Did she want to potentially risk her career that was just taking off? Did she really want to shake her hardass image?

The answer to all those questions was yes. She wanted to do all those things, despite the possible consequences. For the first time in her life, Gale Weathers was truly falling in love. In love with someone who she had humiliated, someone who may never forgive her.

Could this be out of line?

Could this be out of line?

To say you're the only one

Breaking me down like this

You're the only one I would take a shot on

Keep me hanging on

So contagiously
