Chapter 3: I'm With You

Set after Scream 3. Gale and Dewey are reflecting on their relationship and their recent decision to get married.
Her left hand. She couldn't take her eyes of her left hand. Left hand, ring finger was where her engagement ring was located. Her engagement ring. She, Gale Weathers, was freaking engaged to be married!
Gale still couldn't get over her shock. Shocked wasn't even the right word. She was just plain giddy, like a little girl. Of course all of this child-like giddiness was taking place in the form of tiny little butterflies in her stomach. No, on her face was this idiotic smile that, as of right now, wasn't going away anytime soon.
Dewey, her future husband, (which she has to admit she liked the sound of) was amazing. He really was. He was so respectful and sweet. He was brave. He was strong, he was a fighter-just the type of guy Gale needed to be with, and the type of guy she needed to keep her held together. Dewey was more than she had ever asked for.
Right now, she was standing on the porch of Sidney's isolated home in the darkness, thinking to herself. She liked it out here. You could actually see the stars, unlike in the city. Gale ran her fingers over the wooden rail. It was roughly two hours ago when Dewey proposed to her right here in this very spot. She took a deep breath and drank it all in for a second, something she rarely did.
"You may have to break up an argument between Dewey and Mark again," Sidney's voice came from behind her.
Gale laughed. "Not again."
Sidney came and stood next to Gale. There was a silence between them. They were rarely alone. Gale didn't know what to say to her, really. It's not like she was doing an interview, or waiting to get decked in the face. Should she apologize? Say something about the recent murders? That probably wouldn't be the best idea...
"Congratulations, Gale." Sidney broke the silence and followed it up by an unexpected hug. Gale returned the embrace and her smile brightened.
"Thanks, Sidney."
Sidney looked into Gale's eyes and put a hand on her shoulder. "You guys are going to work, you know. You guys will make it."
"You think so?"
"I know so. Believe me." Sidney squeezed Gale's shoulder reassuringly.
"Can I have that in writing?" Gale asked, half-jokingly.
Sidney laughed. "You don't need it in writing. You two will be together forever. I know."
Gale's smile brightened more, if that was even possible at this point. "Thank you for having faith in us," she laughed.
"Hey, I mean it. I know my surrogate big brother," Sidney said affirmatively. There was a pause. Sidney cocked her head and smiled slyly. "You're really crazy about him aren't you?"
Gale sighed. "Yes," she admitted truthfully.
Sidney let out a little squeal that surprised Gale and hugged her again. "I am so happy for you guys. I should get back in there to make sure those boys don't kill each other." Sidney turned around to walk back into the house.
"Hey Sid?" Gale stopped her.
"Yeah?" Sidney replied.
"Truce?"
The corners of Sidney's mouth stretched to form a smile. "Truce."
Gale turned back to the sparkling starry sky and smirked to herself. Sidney Prescott. She stood out there for a few minutes embracing the beauty of the night, the cool air wrapping around her skin. It was pure bliss.
