The Oblivion
Here I was, in my void of eternal white. Is this what happened to people when they died? I wasn't ever religious, however, I did wonder if this were some type of afterlife; maybe my very own personal hell. This white void was a blank space bubble with no walls or no known ceiling. Even the floor was white! Couldn't this creator pick a different color?
Anyway, this imaginary place in my head was so far endless. I haven't seen any other life form- even though I've walked for what seems like forever. This is some sick twisted afterlife, if you ask me. I am Alice. Alice is dead.
This where my subconscious, Sub, would chime in saying, "No, you're Alice."
I haven't heard from my dear Sub in all the time I've been here. She's gone. I don't really know where she went, I'm just going to go ahead and say she's gone. I kind of miss that son of a gun. I never thought that I would ever think so, but it's true, I do.
I cannot allow my eyes to well up with tears. If I really am dead, where exactly am I? Is this where people like me go? People like me. Strange people: people who wouldn't ever fit into a normal society. People like me who have special powers... or not so special powers that can murder people.
I shut my eyes tight at the memories of all the people I murdered. I'm a murderer. A killer...
A new set of wet tears burn my eyes and force their way down my cheeks. I angrily swipe at them. Now is not the time to go all mushy gushy like the emotional female I am and cry.
I'm not an emotional female. I'm a raging monster who has enhanced senses. I am genetically perfect. Oh! And didn't I mention? A single touch from me can cause an untraceable virus to enter your body and kill you within 24 hours! Insert sarcastic laugh there.
Twenty-four hours later
The noise had begun as a low buzz. It started what seemed like hours ago, sounding like small echoes, bouncing from invisible wall to wall. I sat in silence, completely alone; Sub was still not present. My mind was as blank as this void I was in. I felt hopeless. Scratch that- I didn't feel anything. Numb. I'm just so lost in this blank, limitless, cell. I still have no idea where I am.
Pretty soon, the subtle buzzing morphed into loud vibrations. My head felt as if it were going to crack open. Buzz... Buzz... Buzz... My skull was violently vibrating.
The buzzes kind of sounded like they were coming from a machine. However, I haven't seen a machine since TLA. The Lethal Alliance... My eyes widened at the thought. What if this is where I went? To the afterlife destruction of TLA, left here to rot?
The buzzing turned into soft beeping. These beeps reminded me of a heart monitor. They weren't as jumbled together or as loud as before. Beep... Beep... Beep...
The steady rhythm had my full attention. I concentrated, straining my super-human ears for any changes.
Suddenly, the whiteness around me slowly began to get brighter. I didn't know this white could get any brighter. My eyes burned from the intensity, so I closed them, however, it didn't help much. I could still feel the vehemence through my lids. Beep... Beep... Beep... The beeping got louder- only the loudness was beginning to sound unclear, as if I were underwater.
The obnoxious beeping started to speed up. I was interested in seeing what was happening, if anything at all. My curiosity got the best of me! I allowed my eyes to fly open, startled by the sudden ferocity of the darkness. Neon dots of a familiar cobalt blue danced in my vision.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
The stentorian buzzing from before had finally ended. Now an occasional plodding and subdued beep took place.
My vision cleared up, but the familiar shade of that cobalt blue lingered at the edges, dancing, mocking me. I was staring at a speckled ceiling. "Welcome back, Alice." said a recognizable, yet extremely cocky voice. Sub.
Then I heard a deep shout and several frantic screams.
"She's awake!"
