"She's awake!" The deep voice shouts.
I try to lift my head up and see what's going on, but my brain felt fuzzy and weird. Everything was still slightly hazy. "Will they shut up already?" Sub says, "They're giving me a headache!"
"Do you mean they are giving me a headache?" I retort with my inner voice, "My head, Sub, you're in my head."
Then my subconscious says something else, but I didn't catch the end. "Actually there's something I should..."
My cranium rests against what feels like a metal table. I move my head to the side, resting my cheek on the cool top. It makes my head feel better.
"Where am I?" I call, "Who are you?"
"Relax," Sub says, "We'll be alright." But how can I relax when there are multiple people beginning to swarm around my defenseless body? I try to move my hands and feet, but there are straps pinning me down. As I observe them, I find out the straps are not metal; a kind of Italian leather, easy to break through.
"Alice," a man with a white facial mask said. It covered his mouth and nose. His nose was abnormally large, as anyone could see it sticking out at least two inches from his mask. It dented the mask outwards awkwardly.
"How do you know my name?"
He writes a few things down on a clipboard. "I'm Doctor Harrison. You've been in a coma for two weeks." He begins, shooing the other assistants away, "You must be familiar with The Lethal Alliance, yes?" I nod grimly, the name sounding thick on his tongue, slightly muffled by his facial mask. He pulled out a chair and sat down. The glare from the large window reflecting off of his glasses was enough to make him scrunch his face.
"As you can tell, we are not exactly able to reach The Lethal Alliance Head Quarters, prior to the insanely daring stunt you and your match pulled." He exhaled, sounding wary. "The Lethal Alliance was completely destroyed. All of the equipment, the people who were inside the building, the patients, and the years of lab work and data- it's all gone. Except your match; we we're able to find him."
"So that must mean William Vincent is dead?" I ask.
"Yes, he died in the blast." He looked at me. I smiled victoriously. Vincent was dead. Elijah was nowhere to be found. The Doctor looked at me- or he stared, at least. As if he was intrigued.
"Where exactly am I?" I question.
"You are in a different government testing facility." He states.
I close my eyes, frustrated. "Dear, dear Doctor Harrison, God of all knowing information... Where the hell am I? What you just said doesn't answer my previous question." A throaty growl releases itself from my mouth. "Please."
I examine the window through his glasses; the size, the density, and the amount of force it would take me to smash it. It looks like a regular window. It seems as if I am in a hospital room. Not a testing lab.
"Welcome to David's Shadow Testing Facility." He says.
"What do you do?" I need answers. I demand them.
"Like The Lethal Alliance, we test, of course." He begins. "We also funded them in many of their projects and expeditions."
I let that sink in for a few seconds. If this place funded them, and helped them, then that must mean they have bigger connections. "You know what they were planning?" I ask curiously.
Doctor Harrison nods. "We helped them put the plan together."
I press further, wanting to know exactly why I'm here, "What are your plans for me?"
He gathers his thoughts for a mere moment. Meanwhile, a spontaneous plan begins to form in my mind. Although I've been in a coma for two weeks, I still have the strength I did before. I had no doubt in my mind whether or not I would be able to break through these weak leather straps, stun Doctor Harrison, and break the glass window. It was my escape plan.
All I had to do now was put it into action.
"We plan to do more testing, to find a cure... The Lethal Alliance had yet to find one." I try to keep my face calm, cool, and collected. They could not and would not ever test me. "Since you and your match destroyed the testing headquarters and all of the collected information, DSTF will begin the new research."
"Doctor?" I ask in a false sweet voice, "What makes you think I'm going to comply?"
I bust the flimsy leather straps holding down my ankles and wrists. As soon as my hands break free, they go for the strap against my neck, tearing it off, meanwhile my left leg thrusts into Doctor Harrison's torso. He fires backwards into the wall of machines that are hooked up into me. Harrison's frail body falls onto the ground, like a limp spaghetti noodle.
This all takes place in under three seconds.
I stand up with lightning speed, the IV's and different monitor cables are ripped out of me. I stand unflinching, but not for long. There is already commotion outside in the hallway. I can hear rushed footsteps hurrying towards my room. Harrison tries to stand up, but gasps aloud in pain.
"So long for now, Doctor," I say a sarcastic farewell, "It was nice to meet you. I have to go now."
I bring my leg to the window. It all smashes in slow motion; glass shards fly aimlessly around me. Cool November air fills the room and I step out onto the window ledge.
It was about 5 stories up.
Taking a deep breath in, I jumped down, smashing down onto the concrete in a crouched stance. I rose up slowly, taking in my surroundings.
I realized I was wearing light blue hospital scrubs with no shoes. The places where the IV's were ripped from my arms were now little red marks. They had already begun to heal. There was a wall of fence with curly barbed wire running across the top. The fence looked as if it were about ten feet tall.
Taking a running start, I sprung off of the ground and scaled the wires, landing safely on the opposite side of the compound.
I looked up from my bare toes. They were considerably dirty.
I am all alone, with no friends or family. I have enhanced senses and extreme combat skills. I am genetically perfect. I am infected with something that I now know the name of and what it can do. I am patient 4121. I am an indestructible being.
I am Alice.
