I ate a piece of fruit and looked over at Maurice. He was looking over at someone and smiling. He had a great smile. It was beautiful. he looked at me and laughed.
"You okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yea. I'm fine."
"So you gonna tell me how you know that one dude?"
"Damn. I'm sorry daddy."
"Yea We know I'm yo daddy, but for real though. I was just curious." I laughed and punched him in the arm.
"I know him because of that trip I took on spring break. He was the scuba instructor." I said eating another piece of fruit. "He asked for my number and I gave it to him because he seemed nice. We would talked for a while after I left. Then he moved to Atlanta because of some family things I gues, now he goes here."
"Uh JJ, you got a stalker on yo damn hands. You want me to handle the nigga for you?"
"No Maurice that's not necessary " I said seriously.
"Ight, but just tell me and I'll handle it." He said watching me eat another fruit. "Damn ma, you be makin' that fruit look good. How come you don't just go somewhere and get some food?"
"Well I love fruit and I'm scared Imma be late to class."
"Wow good girl. It's all good though." He said laughing.
"Boy shut up. I bet my grades are still good, unlike yours. I saw what you got on that test last hour. Come on Maurice, you know you are way smarter than a D minus."
"I know. I didn't have time to study. I'm too busy workin'."
"Well today I'm gonna help you. Today you need to be at my house."
"JJ I don't need help. I'm all good."
"Maurice, your like two weeks behind on your work. It's your last year of school and you want to fuck up now? I think not." I said.
"Yea whatever." He said.
"Aw come on. You'll thank me in the future." I said pinching his cheek. he smiled and moved my hand.
While we were laughing, Nate came and sat at the table.
"This nigga." Maurice murmured.
"Hey JJ, wassup Martin." He said looking at me and Maurice.
"Nigga it's Maurice."
"Oh sorry bruh." Nate said, then there was a awkward silence. "So are you two together?" Me and Maurice. looked other.
"No. We're just friends."
"For now." Maurice said. I laughed. I looked at Nate and he had a look of jealousy on his face.
Just, then Trecie came over. "Not now, Trecie." Maurice said looking at her.
"Can I please just talk to you?" Trecie said.
I looked at Maurice and gave him a look. "Man come on." He got up and walked out the lunch room with her.
"What's up with them? " Nate asked.
"That's his ex girlfriend." I said eating a piece of fruit.
"Oh. Why'd they break up." He asked me. He's kind of nosy.
Instead of telling him, I just simply said. "I don't know. He didn't tell me."
"Oh.... Hey Jayla I was wondering if you would want to go get something to eat after school?"
