Ellington Ratliff is calling you.
"Rydel?"
"Ellington! Thank god, I was so worried. What happened?"
"I-"
"Ell?"
"Ellington, are you crying?"
"N-no, I'm... I'm fine."
"Why are you crying?"
"What happened?"
"I-I..."
"Just calm down, okay? Take your time. Take deep breaths. Tell me what happened."
Ellington remained silent for a while, trying to control his sobs.
"I missed you so much, Rydel."
"I missed you too, Ellington. Now tell me what happened."
"It's embarrassing..."
"I wont judge."
"I had- I had, like, a bad night and I just felt... empty? My mum found me just in time. I... I haven't been sleeping, so we have sleeping pills."
"Go on..."
"I took an overdose. They had to suck everything out of my stomach to save me."
"Oh my goodness."
"Are you crying?"
"Of course I'm crying, what do you think I would do? I don't want to lose you."
"No, please don't cry..."
"I'm so sorry."
"Promise me you won't do it again."
"I won't."
"Promise me."
"Rydel, I-"
"Ellington?"
"I promise..."
"Thank you."
A silence followed, the beeping noise of the machines that surrounded Ellington being the only thing to make a sound. His gaze wandered over the white ceiling of the hospital, before he closed his eyes and imagined Rydel being by his side.
"Can you sing for me?"
"What?"
"I've never heard you sing. Can you sing for me?"
"Yeah, sure..."
Rydel quietly sang a slow love song, her voice lulling Ellington to sleep. The first good sleep he had had in months.
