Sebastian would always roll around on the floor and shake his head uncontrollably when he was a child. No one ever knew why. His parents would think nothing of it, the doctors would always say it was just a stage he was going through. His attention span was one to none, and his communication skills were unskilled. He sat quietly alone in his room as he always would and had no friends because of poor his communication skills.
The first puzzle piece to his story came about during his state championship T-ball game when he was three years of age. His parents, Ashley and Kevin knew he had problems with communication, but when he started rolling around on the ground and shaking his head against his own will, his parents became extremely worried. He was nervous for his game which was why he was doing those absurd actions. His parents feared for his life because he was crying as if he had broken his neck, but when his mother gently grazed the top of his head, he was completely fine and sat on the grass with a gentle smile on his face, his blue eyes twinkling in the summer sun under his ball cap.
The state championships weren't a big deal for anyone, the kids were there to play, have fun, and enjoy themselves. That afternoon, the 'T-Ball Tigers' brought home the first place trophy. Sebastian didn't quite comprehend what to think of it, since he was the youngest on the team.
Ashley called up Sebastian's pediatrician that night and told her about the incident at the game. Dr. Brooks referred her to a neurologist to have him looked at and maybe see why he was acting so strangely.
Sebastian sat with his mother the next day in the doctor's office gazing up at the LED lights above him looking a bit lost until his doctor came in.
"Hello" she said to Ashley
"Hi, " Ashley said with a pause.
Ashley was extremely cautious because of all the biohazards in their surroundings. Sebastian, as per usual had no idea what was going on. All he did was slam the lower doors of the cabinets without touching a needle, which was a relief for his mother, but he was giving her an anxiety attack because she couldn't do anything
about his behavior.
His doctor suspected nothing was wrong, and told Ashley he was just an overactive child and he is just a little slow but will catch up before he starts school. He was in daycare, and he needs to have more time to burn out all his excess energy just like a dog who lives in a small apartment.
Ashley returned home with Sebastian with a sigh. No answers, and her child is not normal.
As time went on, Sebastian's temper and over all actions got worse, and more... unique.
He was alone in his room playing with a clapper that his early interventionist Melissa gave him. Ashley and Kevin thought introducing early intervention would be beneficial to Sebastian's communication skills. He was going crazy with it, until it broke when it hit one his front teeth and it chipped. He began to hysterically cry, and bleed. Kevin rushed in to his aid, and then Sebastian began to laugh like a hyena.
Once again, when brought to the doctors attention, they just said it was a stage.
Continuous efforts at different medical facilities all neglected to tell the family what was wrong with Sebastian. Maybe nothing was wrong, and he would just be a little strange all his life. Sebastian's parents had to cope with this and there was nothing they could do about it.
