I was not really happy about Mirus coming along as I knew I was going to a very dangerous place. But I also knew that my chances of survival without him were zero. He was someone who was lauded by the whole village for his hunting prowess. Before I could speak anything, he walked past me and said "follow me if you want to live". Which was my original intention, so I followed him quietly.
So we walked through the forest and encountered very few beasts. Mirus knew where to walk to not disturb the territories of the dangerous ones. After a couple of hours of walking, we could finally see the ruins. Mirus stopped me and said "this is the furthest I've ever been. It's gonna be really dangerous from now on. What we need to do now is check the map, go straight towards the lab, search for the record quickly and return as soon as possible. Let's hope the beasts aren't too alert." I nodded and continued following him as stealthily as I could.
I was not as fast as Mirus so I could see that he was walking slowly so as to not leave me too far behind and also to check for the dangers ahead. He looked at the map and we headed towards the lab. The lab was a small building which didn't look any special. The ruins didn't exactly look 'ruined', but add if someone had suddenly stopped living in the buildings. There were definitely quite few structures that were broken down, but a majority of them were just suffering from the ravages of time. But comparatively, the lab looked as if it was new. It had a fresh look about it and the mana around it was more than I'd ever seen in the village. The mana looked like it was making a shield around the lab.
I was admiring the mana surrounding the lab, when I felt Mirus tug my arm. I snapped out of it and we both walked towards the door of the lab. We easily walked though the mana shield and when we tried to open the door, a loud sound rang out. The door slowly opened, but we saw that there were countless beasts gathering outside the lab. It seemed as though they couldn't pass through the mana-shield. We ran inside the lab and closed the door.
Mirus gave me a solemn look and said "I've never seen these many beasts together. It looked as though they couldn't come in for whatever reason, but let's not let down our guard. First, we'll search for the record we were asked to search. We'll think of a way to escape later."
The lab had five rooms. The entrance, the main lab, a secondary lab, the storage and an empty room. The storage was filled with books and jars filled with stuff which we didn't want to know about. The chances were, the record the Chief asked about were in the storage room. So we divided the area and started searching for the record.
