1st POV
It was my first day at my new school, my father told me it was good for us, to get away from all of the bustle of Tokyo. My dad agreed with him, so we moved, and now we're here. I don't really miss Tokyo, I didn't have many friends back there. Except sweet little miss Okito who lived next door to us in the apartment building, she was old but lively, most old people would be content with the silence, waiting to die. But not her, she was always doing something, planting, baking, sewing, crotcheting, etc. We always had tea every Thursday and Sunday, I'd bring the macaroons and she'd have the tea. She was like a grandma to me, the grandma I never had.
Oh well, I have to go to school now. Our new house isn't that far from the school, so I walked. I like walking, its peaceful, it gives me time to think. Back at my old school I was praised for my mathmatic skills, I went to a National Competition and got second. I didn't really care, but I had a lot of people supporting me, so naturally I got a lot of fan mail.
I soon arrived at the school and I was hesitant to walk in, it was a lot smaller than my old school, but I didn't know anyone here. Also, I didn't know the school at all. I walked inside and went to the main office, the lady at the desk asked for my name and then gave me my schedule, I soon found the classroom without difficulty, seeing as it was, a lot smaller than my old school.
When I walked in, the class was just settling in, and the teacher looked over to me. "Oh! You must be the new student! Welcome, my name is Ms. Amakata. I will be your homeroom teacher." The rather young looking short brown haired woman spoke to me, I could swear I've seen her before..."Hello, I'm (l/n)(f/n)." "It's nice to meet you, (l/n) san, why don't you have a seat next to Tachibana san." She pointed to an attractive guy with green hair. He smiled at me and waved, I gave a small wave back and walked over to the empty desk near him.
I sat down and got my stuff, out we started with Mathematics as soon as the teacher arrived. The teacher placed a problem on the board, and asked the class to come up with an answer. A kid raised his hand but was soon told after speaking that he was incorrect, I raised my hand, seeing as I already knew this material. "Yes (l/n) san?" "umm..the answer is unknown at the time, but if you were apply the..." As I went on the teacher's eyes continually got larger in size, "...then the answer is 9 3/4. Any one could see that." Everyone was silent. The teacher looked at me and smiled, "I see your reputation precedes you, (l/n) san."
Everyone suddenly got confused and looked at me, 'uh oh, definitely not the first impression I wanted to make.' I put my head down and tried to cover my face. The teacher continued, "For all of you who don't know, our very own student, (l/n)(f/n), has recently been involved with the National Mathematics League Competition. Or, MNLC for short." I heard many gasps and 'No way's, "That's like the Olympic's for Math geeks!" I heard one kid whisper, rather loudly. The teacher continued, "Even though they only placed second, they still got a lot of national attention. It was, I must admit, rather impressive."
"Wow" I turned to look at the voice, It was Tachibana san. He turned to me with wide eyes, "That's so cool!" I couldn't help but blush, he just looked so cute. Soon the class was over, the teacher asked me to talk after school. I agreed. Soon the school day was over. A lot more easier than I expected. I saw the teacher and he asked me to tutor a student who wasn't doing so well. He almost begged me..it was really awkward...
I agreed to though anyway, he seemed rather desperate. "The student's name is Nanase Haruka. He hasn't been doing well lately, he seems, distracted." The teacher gave me his address and home phone number and a list of the stuff that he needed to be caught up on. I called his home phone that night and when he answered I was surprised at his speech, "I was in the bathtub, what do you want." It was a statement, not a question, which took me by surprise. "Umm.. Nanase Haruka?" "Yes? Who is this?" "I-it's (l/n)(f/n) san, Mr. Sanuki asked me to tutor you.. I was wondering if we could set up some meeting times to work on mathematics?" He was silent for a while, "Nanase san?" "Haru" "w-what?" "Call me.. Haru."
The next Tuesday we agreed to stay after school for two hours to work on math. We stayed in our classroom and just moved my desk closer to his. "Alright Haru san, now how would you go about solving this problem?" He just looked really hard at it for a little while then opened his mouth "You would distribute..right?" "Yes! Very good Haru san!" I could have sworn I saw his face darken a little, but it's probably just me.
We stayed like that, working on the worksheets he was missing. He didn't seem to be that behind in his work, so I was surprised that Mr. Sanuki wanted me to tutor him. "Well, that's all for today, we'll do some more on Thursday-" "(f/n)" "wh-" before I knew what was going on, Haru had pulled me close to him and our lips connected. Then the sound of a bag dropping took our attention away from the situation at hand. When we turned to look, it was Makoto. "M-Makoto sama...it's not-" "I'm sorry, it appears that I have interrupted something. I was just bringing Haru some Mackerel and snacks, but it looks like you guys were busy anyways." I could hear the hurt in his voice, behind the smile. It was pained.
Flashback
When I came home from my first day at Iwatobi High School I noticed something odd. I pulled out the piece of paper that I noticed was sticking out of my bag and unfolded it. It was a little note.
Hey! It's Makoto, the guy you sit next to in class, if you have any questions about the school or anything I can answer them for you. Here's my number:
xxx-xxx-xxxxI blushed, no way, the cute guy next to me wanted to actually be friends? Well, I'm not complaining. I called him that night, and we actually had a really nice conversation, we talked and talked about our lives, I learned of his siblings, his involvement in the swim club, and his best friend Haruka. I told him that I was going to be tutoring him soon. He told me all about his best friend, his love for makerel, and his water fetish. At least I got to know some stuff about the guy I was supposed to be tutoring so it wasn't so awkward.
That Wednesday we planned to go hang out together, take a walk along the beach, it was a nice plan. I was excited, if what he told me was true, he was a very kind and caring guy, It made me happy that he was first friend that I got to meet here.
End of Flashback
I reached for him, "Makoto, please-" before I could finish he was walking out of the door. My arm dropped. I couldn't believe it, the guy who had finally opened my heart again, was gone. Haru let go of me, and whispered, "I'm sorry, I'll fix this..." He grabbed his bag and quickly ran out of the room. I grabbed my bag, stood in front of the desks, moved them back, and then slowly walked out of the room and back home. I had a lot to think about.
That night I got a phone call from Makoto, "Hello?" "(f/n)" I gasped, surprised "Makoto" "Look, I want to apologize, Haru told me everything." "I-i see" "I'm very sorry for accusing you of something that you did not wish to partake in." "It's fine, really, I'm just glad you called, I thought you were mad at me.." "No! Never.." "So...are we still on for the beach tomorrow?" He was already happy again, I could hear it in his voice. "Oh yes, of course!" I smiled, "Great! I'm very excited."
The next day after school, we met up by the front, since he didn't have practice that day. When he saw me that morning he smiled at me. God, his smile is beautiful. It's like a ray of sunshine. What I hope to soon be, my ray of sunshine. After school, we were in each other's company for five minutes and he had me smiling like I hadn't in a long time. Halfway down the beach he asked if he could hold my hand, I blushed. Hard. I turned my head and didn't say anything, I just lightly laced my fingers between his and smiled to myself.
"Thanks for letting me take you out." He whispered sweetly in my ear. I turned to him with gratitude filled eyes, "No Makoto, thank you." I reached over and softly kissed his cheek.
