Henry returned to Sam with a new apple in his hand and took his seat across from her. He bit into his and watched Sam as she thoughtfully held the other apple in her hands.
"Is something troubling you?"
He finally asked.
"Oh, it's nothing."
She blushed looking at the apple. Henry and Sam should have been married by now and living in their new house. Married... Sam bit her lip. Why did she feel this way? She was the one who ran away in the first place. She looked up at Henry who was now drifting asleep. Samantha smiled. She liked him better like this, when he was just her friend not her fiancé. After all, liking him would ruin all of her plans and jeopardize their newfound friendship. Sam sighed and readjusted her bonnet.
The hours seemed to drag on until Henry woke up 2 hours later. Embarrassed for falling asleep, he cleared his throat and checked his pocket watch. His eyes widened at the time and sighed as he dropped it back into his pocket. Samantha was attempting to read once again, but now that Henry was awake she shut the book and smiled
"Did you have a good nap?"
He laughed uneasily
"Sorry, I thought I would just rest my eyes for a short while, but I guess I'm no good with keeping time."
"It's alright, we have had a pretty busy last two days."
"Yes, we have. Samantha, I want to talk to you about the reasons why I came with you ."
A jolt of excitement shot into Sam's heart.
"And what is that Henry?"
"Well, you see, even though we have only known each other for a short period of time, the day I saw you riding on that horse in the street, I felt like there was an entirely new side of you that I have yet to discover. I knew that if I forced you into this marriage, that I may never get to see that side of you because you would never be happy around me. When you told me about your dreams of visiting New Orleans, I could see your eyes light up and your face glow with such hope and happiness that I was afraid that if I let you go I would never see it again. I wanted to make sure that your dream comes true, Samantha."
The woman next to Sam flapped her fan harder and sighed quietly,
"What is she waiting for?"
Sam's eyes blinked at Henry and she was unable to find the words to respond with.
"Sam, I-"
"New Orleans Station! We are now arriving at New Orleans!"
The operator announced walking down the aisle. As he past the old woman she wacked him with her fan.
"New Orleans Sta- Ouch!"
"Will you take your hollerin else where? You ruined a perfectly good moment!"
"New Orleans!"
Samantha gasped gazing out the window.
Henry sighed then smiled at Sam's reaction.
