Alyce's POV
"Hackett!" Mrs. Grimm yelled from the front of the room.
I quickly snapped out of my daydream and forced my eyes onto her. Mrs. Grimm is the teacher that everyone hated. She kept an eye on us all like a hawk. A unfriendly, hungry, ferocious hawk.
After making eye contact with her I stared down at the book we were reading, Snow White. I was never a fan of cheesy romance stories, the princess marries the prince in the end and everything's fine. So why waste the time?
"Tonight, you will be writing a report on why your friends should read Snow White, and explain why the prince did the right thing by saving her." She spoke in the most monotone voice as she stared down my row.
A large amount of groans could be heard from behind me, but Mrs. Grimm didn't let that slide.
"I'll have you write two essays." She stared at the trouble-makers and gritted her teeth.
I knew what I was going to do that evening. Go into the forest as usual, and stay there until night-fall. My parents would never find me and I wouldn't have to do the stupid report.
Just as Mrs. Grimm was done babbling on about the report, the bell rang. I quickly gathered my notebook, pencils, and small pink eraser then headed out the door into the loud hallway.
"Hey Alyyyyyyyce." A few girls strung out my name and laughed at me. I was used to being picked on by now, I was the "odd" one.
I shrugged it off and made my way to the exit of the school. Once I got there, my best friend, Delilah ran over. I talked to her for a bit then ran home, I couldn't waste any time.
I threw my backpack onto the kitchen table and dashed to my room, quickly pulling on a long yellow rain jacket and skinny jeans. I grabbed a drawstring bag and started filling it with whatever I would need. Lucky for me, my parents weren't home, so I could take as long as I needed to get everything ready.
When I was back in the kitchen I packed a few granola bars, a water bottle, and some cash. After everything was ready I walked out into the backyard to be greeted by pouring rain. A few minutes later the rain had practically disappeared, being that I was under big pine trees.
What the? I watched a tree move, and saw someone with a black cape on. The figure sprinted towards me and I immediately blacked out.

A few hours later

I woke up on a strange road with trees surrounding the edges. The forest looked nothing like it did back home, there was a dullness to it. I slowly stood up and I could've sworn that one of the trees blinked. I stepped back and my heart was racing.
"Don't stare at them too long." A boy spoke with a stern voice, looking at me.
I jumped and was on the ground again, why was I scared of a boy?
"The name's Atticus." He helped me stand up and I brushed my jeans off, which just resulted in leaving mud stains.
"Alyce." I crossed my arms and looked at his eyes. One was emerald green with black specks, and the other was sky blue with brown specks.
"What?" He stared back at me.
"Nothing... Your eyes, they're-."
"I know, they're different. She did it to me." His head dropped and he was now looking at his shoes, which were a dirty shade of gray.
"Who?"
"Quit playing stupid, you have to know who she is." Atticus' tone was now sour.
"I just got here, how am I supposed to know?" I fought back.
"Snow White, the queen. She controls pretty much everyone and everything." His tone quickly changed to a saddened one.
"Wait no... She's the princess, the one who got poisoned." I covered my mouth, nothing made sense.
"Well now the tables have turned, darling."
"Do you mean... She's evil?" I whispered.
He nodded quickly and looked around, like he was making sure that no one was watching us.
"Just please be careful. Don't trust anyone, or anything." He glanced at the trees then back at me.
"You can't just leave me here! Are you insane?"
"No, but you'll end up being killed if I'm with you." He muttered.
"I don't understand..." Tears filled my eyes and I felt his hand underneath my chin.
"I promise you'll be alright." Atticus slid a necklace over my head and it settled on top of my rain coat.
"How do you know? I might die out here, alone."
"I'm sorry Alyce." He tightly hugged me, like he'd known me for years, then sprinted off into the forest.
I quietly strolled down the road, not knowing where I was going. I could make out some kind of a castle far away and sighed, this was it. Where the so called queen, Snow White, lived. Where many people were locked up in the dungeons below.
I ran towards it, and was surprisingly there within a few minutes. I stepped onto the dark stairway, which turned into marble underneath my footsteps. When I made it to the top, I gently knocked on the huge door, and it opened on its own.
"Silence!" I could hear her yell from the room opposite the door.
"Someone's here, madam." A knight in full metal armor turned towards me.
"Go over there then." Snow White gritted her teeth and crossed her legs.
The knight marched towards me and firmly held onto my upper arm, then took me into the large room, with a throne directly in the middle against the wall.
There she was. The girl I had been reading about. But she looked completely different. Her dress which used to be quite colorful was now black, with hints of deep red. Her hair which used to be in a black bob, was now grown out and down to her waistline. Alongside of her was a table, which had a platter of apples, poisonous ones.
I gulped as she opened her mouth to talk.
"Another trespasser I see." She rolled her eyes and picked up one of the gorgeous red apples, taking a bite out of it. The inside of it was completely black.
"I was just lost... I apologize." I bowed slightly, thinking that was the right thing to do.
"Lost.. What a pity." Her chest shook as she laughed, the noise echoing throughout the room.
"I sincerely apologize..." My eyes were big with fear, I couldn't be thrown into the dungeon, not now.
