Show and Tell

"Nova! It's time for school! You have to get up!" Ruma and Pravir jump on my bed laughing.
"Ok I'm up." I yawn. Pravir and Ruma leave the room. Sabita walks out of her bathroom. She smiles at me and sits on the bed with me.
"I can't wait for my friends to meet you." She giggles.
"Ok I can-when you leave my room." She skips out of the room. I get dressed and leave the room. I bump into Trevor in the hall.
"Morning," I smile. He ignores me and walks off. "Hey! Don't ignore me!" He continues to walk off. He walks off with his backpack.
"Don't worry he will be back." Oma says as he pats my back. "I have the plane tickets," he smiles.
"Ready?" Lucia asks. I nod.
"He's so freaking mental!" All the kids snicker. Oma says something in Hindi and they all lower their heads and frown.
"Nani, what should I do?" I look at the grandma. She just rolls her eyes. "No wise words? Come one you spoke so much English last night. "
"Nani, doesn't speak English. She says she can't stand the language." Oma looks over at his mother.
"We had a full conversation last night." I continue.
"Maybe this heat is getting to you." Lucia says pressing her hand to my forehead. I look over her should and Nani gives an evil smile and gives me a wink. She is playing her family!
All five kids, Nani, Lucia and I leave for the school. We walk there since it isn't that far. Nani sits outside with another women while the rest of us go inside.
Lucia tells me to follow the girls and Ruma and Amari take my hands and lead me to their class.
Ruma, Ben, Pravir and Amari are all in the same class. Sabita tells me she will see me for lunch.
The teacher stands up.
"Ok class," English thank goodness.
"This show and tell is for Ben, Pravir, Amari and Ruma. All the way from America, Nova." The class all claps and smiles. They stare at me like I'm a prized pig at the fair.
"Hello. I'm Nova. I am from Portland, Oregon. That is on the west coast by California. Any questions?" Hands shoot up.
"Fadi." The teacher calls. A small boy stands up.
"How old are you?" He sits down.
"I am 19. Almost 20." The teacher calls on a little girl, she stands. I notice they all wear the same green and white uniform.
'What do you like about Mumbai?" She smiles.
I smile. "That's easy. The people. Oh and the culture."
"Last question. Juana."
"Why did you come to Mumbai?"
"I'm traveling the world at the moment. My friend picked this place. He said he knew the best spots so I went along and I'm happy he chose here."
"Her boyfriend." Ruma giggles to the girl who asked the question.
"He's not my boyfriend." I shake my head.
"Sure looks like it." Ben adds. The whole class starts laughing.
"Class! Settle down! Ok thank you, Nova."
