My first day was hell. Ace and his mindless friends pushed me around all day. To add on to that torture, my teachers had all been furious that I had shown up late. I was perfectly capable of coming to class on time; I just hid in the bathrooms for the majority of passing period to avoid Ace.

As I sat in my fourth period history class, I had one thought in my mind. After fourth period was... lunch. Lunch was the absolute worst. My bullies always found some way to end up having me covered in food. Today would be no difference.

The bell's sound echoed through the empty halls and into our classes. While other hastily shoved their work into their bags and ran out of class, I took my time, trying to cut into the lunch period as much as possible. Soon, I was the only one left in the class and my teacher was looking at me, clearly annoyed. Sighing, I picked up my bag and trudged out of the room, admitting defeat.

The lunchroom was packed when I got there. Almost all of the tables were full, leaving no room for a newcomer. I would probably be stuck eating lunch in the library again.

As I got in line to get my food, a familiar voice rang out.

"Is the fatass getting her food again?"

Ace. This boy would be the death of me. He was standing with two of his friends, followed by a group of loyal followers. I recognized his two friends, the one on the left was Aaron, who was tall and lanky, like a bunch of bones thrown into the shape of a teenage boy. He was a track runner, the star from Oak View. That was about as much as I knew about him, besides the fact that he loved to torment me almost as much as Ace did. I didn't really know his other friend, he was usually the quiet one.

I pretended that I didn't hear his comment and continued shoveling mac and cheese onto my plate.

"Whoa there big girl," he taunted. "Another scoopful of that and you'll get a double chin. Wait, I mean, another one!"

"When's the last time you've actually seen your whole body in a mirror?" his friend Aaron asked. He was tall with brown hair and a malicious look in his eyes, as it I were a gazelle he wanted to devour.

His friends continued to throw insults at me until I felt a wet glob hit my face. Mashed potatoes. I looked over and Aaron and another boy were laughing and pointing at me. I wiped the mushy food off my face, fighting tears once again.

"Leave her alone!" A voice called. I looked over to see a tall blonde girl, wearing a well-fitted uniform that hugged every curve. She was carrying the newest Kate Spade and she wore a pair of high-heeled boots.

I had never seen her before, so I assumed that she was one of the people who transferred here after middle school. Ace and his friends seemed intimidated by her, which was unheard of.

She walked over, grabbed my hand and started dragging me to the girls bathroom.

When she opened the door, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror.

I was a mess.

My eyes were red and bloodshot. My hair was tangled and falling around my face, making me look like something straight out of a horror story. Worst of all, there were smears of mashed potato still on my cheeck.

" I'm Jessica, by the way."

I looked over and saw her looking at me with a sympathetic smile. She walked over, grabbed some paper towels and ran them under the faucet. She handed them to me, extending her perfectly mainicured hand.

"I have a change of clothes in my locker, if you want me to grab that for you..."

I turned my head back to the mirror and saw that the mashed potatoes had run down my face and onto my blouse and skirt, turning them into a stained mess.

I nodded my head slowly, thankful for her offer.

"I'll be right back," she said, then rushed out of the bathroom.

******

We spent the rest of the lunch period cleaning me up.

I was wearing her extra uniform and I had let her convince me to let her do my makeup. She worked magic, fixing my puffy eyes and covering up the unevenness on my skin. By the time she was done, lunch had ended.

When I looked back into the mirror, I didn't recognize the girl who stared back at me. She had flawless, dewy skin and sleek hair pulled back into a ponytail. Her eyes were lined with a chocolate liner and lashes were incredibly long.

"Wow you look great!" Jessica exclaimed, stepping back to examine her handiwork.

"T- Thanks..."

She quickly shoved all of her makeup back into a little pink case and put it into her bag. Before leaving, she turned back to me and asked, "Do you want to sit with me at lunch tomorrow?"

I was shocked. I had never got that kind of invitation before. "Sure," I squeaked out.

"Cool," she said. "Come on. I'll walk you to class."

When I got to my pre-calc class, I got a severe scolding from the teacher. I just stared at her with a dumb smile on my face. Nothing could ruin today.

A/N: Jessica for the win! Don't forget to like and comment :)
