I wake up deep in the woods. Will is curled up next to me. We're both soaked. Did it rain last night? I sit up. Will bolts awake.
"Did I fall asleep?"
"Yes. We both did." He gets a panicked look in his eye.
"Don't worry. I put a protective barrier around us." He sticks his hand out and touches the transparent blue force field. It ripples around his touch, then turns yellow. His powers color. I smile.
"Been a while since you used your powers, huh?" He gives me a weak smile and looks down.
"Let's go back to the shack." I say, standing up and offering my hand.
"You know. You could take that patch off. You're safe here." He looks at me horrified.
"What's under this patch is what got me into so much trouble with our dad." I roll my eyes.
"Let's forget him. He's not our dad. His name is Dan, and he never cared about us. We shouldn't care about him either." He nods.
"I would like that." I wrap my arm around him.
"You gonna take it off?" He shakes his head. We walk back to the shack in silence.
.................
We arrive at the shack. I head inside with will in tow to find my boyfriend. He's not here. I'm calling his name, but there's no answer. we decide to head out and look for them. Will points.
"Hoove prints, there in the mud." He's right. There's a trail of small hooves going into the forest. We follow them for about a hundred yards before will bends down. He looks to the left.
"That way." He stands up and starts walking in that direction.
"How are you so good at this?" I ask. He looks at me sheepishly.
"When I was alone, I taught myself how to hunt." I look down.
We're deep in the woods. Im crying my eyes out, while will is trying to comfort me.
"He won't find us here. We're safe." He hugs me. I get mad at myself. Why did I have to use my powers? It got us both in trouble. I start to rage. Fire starts to rise up. I hear will calling my name, but I can't respond. I start to scream, the flame burns and I feel like I'm being torn in half. Will yells. We both fall to our knees, and pass out.
Will shakes me back to reality.
"Stop thinking about it. That's in the past, and I forgive you. You didn't have control over what you were doing." I feel a tear roll down my cheek. There's a scream in the distance, to the left. We dash towards it as I wipe my face.
