Chapter One - Fun for a night
Locked away in my bedroom, my parents are fighting down stairs and I'm keeping myself out of it, I'm not going to get involved in something that I don't need to get involved with. They've had a fight with each other every night of this week. After every fight my mother comes upstairs and checks on me to see if I am ok and hopes that I haven't heard too much about what they've been fighting about.
I'm never really sure, so I just say I'm fine. Did you know that 'I'm fine' is the most common lie that people say. I'm glad my mother doesn't know this, otherwise I would be stuck talking to her for a lot longer than usual and I hate talking about my feelings and getting close to my mum is something that I'm not willing to do.
The reason I don't like talking to my mother is because I hate her and we don't have a very good relationship with each other. Also I have always felt that my parents have never cared about me. They never show me that they love me. All my friends know that I have problems with my parents and they all support me when I need to escape that I can go and sleep over at their place.
I'm currently on facebook and a status update has just popped up on my screen. 'Lucy Gomez is in a relationship with Jacob Tucker.' Lucy is my girlfriend, she's fifteen and I'm sixteen. Lucy and I have been dating for two weeks. Friends say that Lucy and I are a cute couple, Lucy likes being told this but I now I've gotten sick of it because I have heard it so many times. But if Lucy is happy that's all that really matters to me.
My best friend William thinks Lucy is just using me but he wouldn't know anything because he's gay and he's never been in a single relationship with someone. Another friend of mine says that Lucy only likes me because of my good looks, I am not good looking, but I do have a nice chin. I have to admit that. Lucy's best friend Michelle says Lucy is one that likes people for who they are, not for their looks. I'm not sure who to believe, I guess I just have to find out for myself what Lucy's true thoughts are on me.
It's Friday night and I am going to the movies with Lucy and a couple of our friends soon. But before I leave home I make sure I have my money and my new fancy leather jacket, hopefully Lucy thinks I think good. I paid a decent price for this jacket, so it needs to make me look good. As I reach the handle to the front door my mother sees me.
"Where are you going Jacob?" she asks.
"I'm going to the movies with some friends." I reply, hoping it triggers some memory of me saying I'm going to the movies Friday night.
"Now I remember, do you need any money?" My mother is trying to make conversation with me, this is unusal behaviour.
"Yeah, I have money."
My mother gets up from the dining room table and goes into her hand bag to get her purse out.
"Here's fifty dollars" She says handing me the money, but I don't take it.
My mum steps closer to me and pulls me into a hug sneaking the fifty dollars into a pocket in my leather jacket. She kisses me on the cheek and opens the front door.
"Have a good time Jacob, I love you." She says as she waves goodbye.
"I love you too mum, see you later." I yell out to her just as she shuts the door. In my mind I tell myself that I didn't mean that.
I have to walk to Lucy's place to pick her up, I hope she doesn't mind me being five or ten minutes late. I start running. When I arrive Lucy is already standing out the front look at her personalised diamond white watch.
