"Don't you think it'd be cool though? To go to an American high school. Think about it, the only thing you have to worry about is homework, and the homework can't be that hard right?" I ramble on continuing to look through Netflix on my laptop. Ever since I watched Grease, the American high school system has just fascinated me and I've wanted to attend one since.
"I don't know man. Stuff like that usually are more than it seems. You've seen royalty movies, I mean people think being royalty is a walk in the park, but look at you. You hate the fact you have royal blood in you," Pete reasons keeping focused on his Rubik's Cube.
"I don't hate the fact that I have Royal blood, I hate the fact that I'm going to have to be king," I quickly fire back looking up from my laptop.
"Whatever dude, but I'd rather stick with the life I know."
"Prince Aaron and Prince Brandon, you're presence is requested in the dining hall," our butler, Kevin, announces walking into my bed chamber. Usually, the servants would knock, but I told Kevin to just come in unless my door is closed which it usually never is. I don't like him treating me like royalty because he's kind of like a 2nd father if anything and I'd rather he treat me normally than like a boss.
"Kevin, please call me Rob. Please? You only have to call me Prince Aaron around my father," I tell him and he sighs rubbing his forehead.
"I shall try your majesty. But I would rather not make a habit of it and anger your father. I'm sorry your majesty," he explains in his monotonous voice.
"I understand. We shall be down in a little." Kevin only bows in response (which I also hate) before leaving my room.
"Why are all the workers here so uptight?" Pete asks trying to solve the cube even though he hasn't. Whenever he visits, he always tries to solve a Rubik's cube, but he always fails.
"Ask my father. He's the reason," I sigh, "we should get down there before dad sends the whole army to come get us.""Ugh, fine. I was so close though," Pete grumbles putting the toy on my nightstand.
"Dude, you can't even get a full side done," I say to him.
"Whatever," Pete rolls his eyes sarcastically before we both start laughing. "But yeah I can already see the whole military being sent to your room unless we get down there soon."We walk down the stairs together and head toward the dining hall about to walk in before Kevin stops us. "Uh, your majesties, your crowns," he whisper looking up at our hands. We both mutter a "oh" before we take our own crowns back and putting them back on our hands before thanking Kevin and walking into the large room.
(The dining hall ^)
"Good afternoon boys," my mother, Queen Isabella, greets with a smile. I notice everyone else in the room including Pete's dad, my sister, Rosalind, and even Nathaniel Power, the royal advisor. Whenever Nathaniel is here, that means it can not be good. I silently gulp before walking into the room and siting next to Mother and across from Pete. "Dinner is served!" my mom exclaims cheerfully clapping her hands and all of the sudden, the buffet is laid out before us.-:-:-:-
I could barely touch my food because of the sinking feeling in my stomach. First, my father doesn't even tell me he has something to announce, then Nathaniel is here. "Dear, are you okay? You haven't touched you hazelnut soup, and it's your favorite," my mother whispers so only I can hear."I'm okay," I lie through my teeth and she grabs my hand squeezing it. I begin to wonder if she can see through my act like I don't know something is going to happen. As soon as I let out a deep breathe, my father stands up from the head of the table lifting up his glass filled with champagne.
"A toast, to our children that they may lead our countries to greatness." We all lifted our glasses of various liquids and toasted, the knot in my stomach tightening. "Aaron, your mother and I have been talking, and we decided that you're mature enough to take up some more responsibility," he pauses to let the words process in my brain.
They're lowering the coronation age is all that can process through my head. But I stay silent letting him continue. I expect the words to hit like a bullet leaving an wound that'll leave me with no hope. But they never come, not the words I was expecting at least.
"We have given your our consent to attend high school in America," he finally says, my mother sending me a small smile. Everyone starts cheering standing up and I look across the table seeing Pete with the goofiest grin on his face.
"Oh my gosh, seriously?!" I ask not believing them. This must be a dream."Yes, but on one condition," my father adds after everyone sits again. "You have until the end of the school year. If anyone figures out you're of royal blood you must come back here and rule. If you make it through as a secret, you may continue your studies abroad."
