A sweet escape?

Part 1

I was born in England, 1899 at a local Church; my mother, Elizabeth got pregnant outside marriage and her parents both shut the door in her face. My father Benedict however stayed in the mini drama which is my life. I grew up poor, but as the years passed we became richer. I don't know how, but all I know is it was my father that got the money as women couldn't work. By the time I was 10 we were in the Upper Class at last! Our past wasn't important here anymore but as I got to know the other children I noticed one thing; I was totally different! They were already planning their weddings and were excited to settle down and have children of their own! They were 12! It was 1909 when I was 10 that stories about witches, vampires and ghosts first came about. We were taught to believe in them as they could harm us. If that wasn't worrying enough, my mother thought it was time to learn how to be a proper wife; cook, clean, look after children (babysitting younger children) and look after the men in my life and to top it all off...my father was looking for my new HUSBAND! I didn't like my father, in fact I HATED him; he beat mother when she didn't do something he wanted or when she didn't do something straightaway and mother once told me he PAID her father George so he could marry my mum once I was 2! Disgusting! Then he fell ill and died....Thank God I say...

My mother played on his death to gain more friends and respect, she even found another husband, who treated her differently to how they were meant to treat their wives back then. He disagreed with all the rules with controlling husbands and forced marriage so behind closed doors and with no company, just the three of us he treated her like royalty. But of course with company and outdoors they had to act differently. They pulled it off wonderfully. Luckily he didn't want me to get married until I wanted to. If only he had been my real father...9 months after the wedding, mother had twins; two girls, alice, who was always ill and Mary.
