One morning I had woke up late but luckily mother and Isaac had not woken yet to find Mary caring for Alice better than I could because of the bond between the pair. "What are you doing?" I whispered. "Looking after my sister like you do." She told me like it was the simplest thing ever. "That's why you were watching me!" I exitedly whispered back. "To learn how to look after your sister!" She nodded smiling. Then it stopped. "What is going on here?" Isaac screamed at me. "M-M-Mary is-is looking af-after her-her sister." I stammered back. "So she doesn't need you anymore?" He sneered. "No-no Is.." He cut me off. "SIR is what YOU call me." He screamed in my face. Then he walked out. "Why doesn't he like you? You were here first!" Mary questioned me. "Because I'm not his. He's not my Father. Mine died when we moved here." I stated. "Okay." She replied knowing it was a sensitive subject. "Was he nice?" I shook my head. "He used to hurt Mother." She looked angry. "My Father is better than him even though he hates you." We both agreed on THAT. He does treat Mother better than my Father did.
"I told your mother Mary can look after herself and her sister. They are becoming women now anyway, they are 9 tomorrow. Make sure they enjoy the party. As for YOU be seen, help everyone and DON'T be speaking unless you offer help, drinks, food or are greeting at the door. They think you are a servant, they haven't seen you since you were 12 so we told them you killed yourself with grief. They believed us. GO!" He shouted the last word, making me jump so he laughed. That was the most he ever said to me without giving me a beating or shouting at me, telling me how useless I am as one of my ribs bruise instantly
