Eighteen

Jake hired Kam the moment he walked in the shop door. They settled their differences a while back when Kam called again to ask if Emilia came home yet. Jake had called Kam after his big fight that day to tell him Emilia had called to ask about him.

Jake has seen Kam's confession with the rest of the world, and he couldn't bear to leave the guy hanging if there was any chance Emilia would end up with him.

When Jake told Kam she was coming home for the wedding, Kam fell to his knees as his stomach fluttered with glee. He couldn't stop smiling and his stomach flipped the whole night thinking of her return.

It was Kam's second day at the shop, and Jake was laughing at him as Kam learned how to work the lift. Kam stood there with his back to the door in his navy blue mechanics uniform and the sleeves pushed up his thick forearms. 

Emilia pushed the door open silently.

"Damn, this thing ain't even as slow as your mom," Kam muttered.

Jake punched him in the arm and laughed.

"Shut the fuck up, man," Jake said.

Emilia shut the door, and Jake turned around to see who walked in. His heart sped up as he beamed.

"Baby girl!" he shouted and sprinted over.

Emilia squealed as he lifted her up and spun her around. Then he kissed all over her face and hugged her so tight her back cracked.

"Jake!" she croaked out.

Jake released her and smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry, I just missed you. I didn't think you were coming home until next month!" he exclaimed.

"Well, I just missed your pretty face and voice so much I had to come home and see the real thing. You got fat from Rachel cooking," she teased and pinched his sides.

Jake locked his arm around her neck, but then pulled her in for another hug.

"God, I missed you," he sighed.

She closed her eyes tight.

"You have no idea, Jake," she breathed.

He pulled back and kissed her forehead.

She wiped her eyes quick and chuckled as he teased her about being a cry baby now. When he stepped back, she glanced over to see Kam standing before her.

He stared at her with that same stoic look on his face as he stood across the room from her. She tried not to reveal any emotions as she stared back into his lovely eyes. Kam's fists were clenched at his sides. 

"I don't think I've ever seen an uglier mechanic in my whole life," Emilia said.

Jake bit his lip and snorted. Emilia giggled at him and then glanced back over at Kam. He loosened up and the corners of his lips turned up a little.

They stared at each other again, but suddenly they both moved a little. As soon as they both lurched it was a magnetic pull, and they rushed at each other to meet in the middle of the shop. Kam crashed into her and she threw herself at him.

He locked one arm around her hips and the other behind her head to hold her close. He buried his face in her neck and kissed it a thousand times. Emilia locked her legs around his hips and sobbed happily into his shoulder while her hands stroked all over his head, shoulders, and back. They kept their faces buried in one another as they breathed staggeringly against the other. Their arms couldn't go any tighter around the other.

"I love you," Emilia suddenly croaked out.

Kam collapsed to his knees with her still wrapped around him.
