Agents at Hogwarts

Chapter 11

"Just rest your hand here," said Ward as he gently tugged on Skye's arm and moved it to his shoulder, "and hold my other hand. That's all you have to do, I'll lead."

She was relieved at how little she had to remember but she still seemed uneasy. She bit her lip, "that's all?"

He gave her a small reassuring smile, "that's all. We don't have to do any super complicated dances."

She smiled as the music started and the champions marched into the ballroom.

Out of the corner of her eye Skye noticed the flash of a camera and immediately recognized it to be Raina taking the pictures, but she couldn't really bring herself to care about it at the moment. She would worry about the false articles later.

The music started slowly and she put her hands where Ward had told her too.

After about half a minute she had finally gotten the hang of it.

"There you go," Ward said with a smile.

She blushed, "thanks for teaching me. As you could probably tell, I never really went to many dances back home."

"You're doing great."

Skye smiled and looked over his shoulder, "holy no way!"

"What is it?" he asked, craning his neck so he could see behind him.

"I knew it! I totally knew he was going to be Kara's date," she smirked to herself as they continued to dance.

Ward tired of craning his neck, turned their position so that he was now in the spot that Skye was previously standing in, "oh," he smirked when he saw who she was dancing with, "so I see he finally got the courage to ask her."

"You knew?" Skye asked.

"Of course! She's my best friend and Trip and I have gotten a lot closer recently."

"You knew Trip liked Kara? And you didn't tell me?" she asked in mock hurt.

He let out a small chuckle, "I thought you knew, it was pretty obvious."

She scrunched up her nose at how she wasn't able to tell that her best friend actually liked someone. And the fact that he didn't even tell her.

When the music stopped she and Grant walked arm in arm over to them.

"Just want to say," said Grant as they walked up to Kara, "I totally knew it."

"Oh whatever," she rolled her eyes at him.

"Trip," said Skye as she removed her arm from Ward's and moved closer to him, "you didn't tell me that you had a crush on Kara!"

Trip shrugged and sent a grin her way, "well now you know."

She playfully smacked him on the arm, "jerk, I'm your best friend. We're supposed to tell tell each other these kinds of things."

He raised an eyebrow, "so when were you going to tell me that Grant asked you?"

She smiled nervously, "it uh... slipped my mind?"

He crossed his arms in disbelief, "sure. I totally believe that the guy you've been crushing on for a year finally asked you to the dance and you forgot."

She sent a small grin and turned back to Ward, "Ok, I've finished giving Trip a hard time about not telling me."

"Ready to dance again then?" he asked holding an arm out to her.

She grinned and linked her arm with his as they made their way back to the dance floor.

Fitz walked over to Simmons, "may I have this dance?"

She grinned at him and stepped away from her friends, placing her hand in his, "you may."

He led her to the dance floor and she smiled as he awkwardly set his hands in the correct places.

"So did you know that Grant was going to be going with Skye?" Jemma asked her best friend.

"Oh totally," Fitz laughed, "you could tell. He was a nervous wreck just a few moments before he asked her, and if he asked Kara to go with him then he wouldn't have been nervous. Plus he doesn't really hang out with any other girls, so I thought it was quite obvious."

Jemma laughed at her friend's deductions, "I thought he was never gonna be able to work up the courage and just end up going with Kara."

"I thought that for a while but then I remembered Grant Ward is the captain of the Slytherin quidditch team, he practically owns the school with how many people love him. He was going to work up the courage eventually."

Jemma moved her head slightly back and forth, weighing what he was saying, "true."

"How much longer do you think before they get together?"

"Skye and Ward?" Jemma asked and then threw her head back in laughter, "hopefully this'll be a push in the right direction but knowing them, it won't be until the end of year most likely. But Skye will definitely be the one to make the first move."

Fitz smiled at her, knowing how good she was at making predictions. They both heard the music pick up and they smiled at each other knowing what Fitz was about to do.

He spun her twice and then dipped her as the rest of the people in attendance clapped.

They both blushed and returned to their seats at their table and fist bumped each other, "we win," Jemma said jokingly.
