Aleks rolled onto his side, jaw cracking with a massive yawn. They’d stayed out pretty late last night, and he was still dead tired, but if he didn’t get up, he’d mess up his sleep schedule again, and that was always a bitch and a half.
Groggily, he pushed himself up, blankets falling off of him. Aleks groped around for his phone, raising the LED screen close to his sleepy eyes. Ten o’clock and a text from James.
Last night’s events didn’t ‘rush to him all at once’, or even piece themselves together slowly; it was more like his memory took a snapshot moment—that amazing, blissfully hot kiss—and expanded outward, unraveling what happened before and after the main event.
Aleks felt wide awake thinking about it and fumbled to open James’s text.
Come over tomorrow. 1:00
His eyes widened. Shit, shit, shit. He wasn’t the type to…talk things over or whatever. A little voice tickled the back of his mind, whispering that, maybe, just maybe, James wanted to continue what they’d started…but he pushed it back. Best to prepare for the worst case scenario, right?
As he threw on some clothing, he thought about last night. He thought about James’s lips and James’s sweet smell and James’s hands in his hair, on his body. He nearly moaned thinking about it. Oh, how he wanted James’s hands on his body.
The more he thought about it, the more he couldn’t wait to get to the Creature house. It would be perfect; none of the others were supposed to go over today and Seamus and Dan had mentioned going to a movie. He and James would be the only ones in the house.
It was strange, how one kiss could change everything. Before, he hadn’t ever thought of James this way, or any other guy. But after that kiss…it was like his eyes weren’t just opened, but had hyper optic contact lenses shoved into them. All the feelings that had been trapped inside of him, the longings and urges and need, raw, animal need, was now directed at his friend. The power of it almost scared him, but he also felt alive in a way that he hadn’t for a very, very long time. Not since he had started making videos, in fact. Anticipation and excitement pumped through him in the form of uncontrollable adrenaline.
Aleks sighed, but with a smile. Now, all he had to do was wait.
James edited, and edited, and edited. Usually, if he woke up early he’d take the opportunity to record extra content or come up with ideas for shorts, but he felt…out of his stride. He knew he couldn’t be the cheery yet raging character his fans loved so much right now, so he edited until there was nothing left to edit.
He rubbed a hand over his face tiredly, and realized he had forgotten to shave this morning. In fact, he still hadn’t changed out of the clothes he had worn last night. Yawning, he walked into his bathroom and took a good look in the mirror. Usually mischievous eyes turned serious, a red mark on his face where he’d slept on his arm, and—fuck, how did lint get in his beard?
James groaned and placed his elbows on the sink counter, pushing the base of his palms onto his closed eyes. This was why he didn’t get in relationships. The anticipation, the anxiety, the uncertainty. He didn’t even know why he’d sent that stupid text to Aleks. Now he would think they were supposed to talk about their feelings or some shit. If there was one thing James Wilson did not do, it was talk about his feelings.
Groaning again, he shaved haphazardly, telling himself that he was leaving a decent amount of stubble because he liked it that way, not because he could feel Aleks’ rough hand on last night’s bristly cheek.
Grumpy, he changed into clothes more acceptable for visitors. Dan shouted through the door that he and Seamus were going to the Alamo Drafthouse for a movie, to which James eloquently responded with “fuck that!” Damn, he wished he could drink a beer this early, but last time he started drinking midday he’d ended up in bed all of the next day with a massive hangover.
He fetched a brunch of pop tarts from downstairs and settled in to his computer seat. There was still an hour until Aleks came over, so he might as well do some work. There was always more to edit, right?
Aleks walked through James’s open door to find the man, as usual, slumped in front of his computer.
“James?” He said, just a bit nervous. But James was his friend, right? That would still be true no matter what happened…right?
James spun his swivel chair around to face him and stood up, stretching. Aleks’s breath caught at the flash of skin exposed when his shirt rode up, but forced himself to look away and act cool.
“You wanted to talk?” He continued nonchalantly. James kind of shrunk back, like he didn’t expect the topic to be brought up so soon and felt vulnerable. He blinked and cleared his throat, meeting Aleks’s eyes but quickly looking off to the side and biting his lip.
“Yeah…uh…about last night…” James chewed on his lip and scratched absently at his arm. “I…uh…”
Aleks didn’t wait for him to finish. With one large stride, he was in front of the bigger man, as his hands pulled that gorgeous head towards his.
Their lips met like a lightning strike. James’s hands were everywhere—in his hair, on his hips, the small of his back. Aleks moaned, vaguely wondering how James was so good at this when he’d never even heard him talk about a girlfriend—or boyfriend, he amended, since, after all, he was a dude, so who said there weren't other dudes?
James’s leg brushed his crotch, and Aleks let out the loudest moan yet. He shoved James back against the wall, still connected with lips and tongues. This time James let out the guttural noise, strong hands tightening around the others’ thin hipbones. Aleks went after him feverishly, teeth clinking carelessly and hands brushing under thin shirts. James held Aleks’s body fast against his own, pulling at his soft hair, groaning as he reached lower—
“Guys?”
They sprang apart, panting and bright red. Jordan was in the open doorway, looking between the two of them like he couldn’t quite believe his eyes.
“I just dropped by to pick up a cat toy I left here and thought I heard something…” He trailed off awkwardly.
Aleks rubbed the back of his neck. He glanced at James, who had his hands in his pockets and was nodding at Jordan--who was looking anywhere but at the two of them--with a guilty, absent stare.
“Uh…I mean, you guys…I…um, whatever you guys do in your personal time…it’s fine with me, if you were worried about that, I guess…” Aleks opened his mouth to say something, anything, to dispel the tension, but he didn’t get a chance, as Jordan, cheeks stained pink, muttered “See you guys later” and strode quickly away.
Aleks stood there until he heard the front door open and close, then turned to James, cheeks red and eyes downcast. “I…” Dammit, dammit, dammit. He cleared his throat. Didn’t look at James. Couldn’t look at James. “I, ah, ought to go record now. I-I’ll, uh, see you.”
Humiliated beyond belief, Aleks walked out of the room without a single look back.
