"Purgatory?" I say to Nick. "Yeah! Don't you think it's clever? Since there's a Heaven and a Hell and stuff? Hehehe," he responded to me. "Anyway, this place is where you'll find anyone who got kicked out of Heaven for no good reason and survivors of the outside world."
"Survivors?! Who the hell can survive nuclear radiation?"
"There's a lot you don't know, James. We'll talk about it later. Right now, we're gonna show you around!" Nick started showing me around Purgatory while Zack, Michael, and Sam just went home. The place was so small yet so peaceful. There were much more families here than I expected. Surrounding the community were these 20 ft tall walls. It kinda reminded me of a TV show that my mom said her father kept on talking about. I think it was called A Tac to Tighten. "Right here is the middle of the city called the Preaching Stage. It's basically where the leader makes his announcements about shit that's happening."
"Who's the leader of the community," I asked Nick. Suddenly, people started gathering all around the middle as a man in a white, dirty suit walked up the stage. He resembled Nick a lot. "That right there is Thomas, also known as Tom. He's the leader of the community and my baby brother."
"Damn, that's cool," I reply to Nick. Thomas then started his announcement. "Hello, good citizens of Purgatory. Today has been quite a roller coaster for me, and that's mainly because of what lies outside the walls. First of all, the Surveillance Division has finally come back from their mission to assassinate one of the Saviors. We found out that it was a success. We plan to use this opportunity to rise up against these corrupt criminals and bring them to justice. Secondly, we have a new citizen in Purgatory." Suddenly, everyone gasped. I heard people murmuring all around me. "Now I know we don't do this anymore because of the last batch of new citizens we had, but this one is an exception. His name is James Madison, a sixteen year old boy who escaped Heaven without using the dreadful bridge. We have decided to put him under Nicholas Cell in the Surveillance Division by special request by the Commander himself. We also have word that–" Suddenly he just stopped. Thomas then looks a Nick and he shakes his head. "Uh, we also have word that there recently have been more mutant activity around the perimeter of our land. Now don't panic, the Surveillance Division, along with the Harrison, will take care of this threat and keep our civilization safe. That is all for the announcements today. I wish you good luck!" Then Thomas walks down and goes right to me. "You must be James. I believe my dear older brother has informed you about me and my position."
"Yes, sir," I say with nervousness. "Hey, what's with all the formality, baby brother. James is an awesome guy. Also, how did you find out about all that info? I don't remember filing a report just yet."
"Michael told me. Anyway, James, you'll fit right in with the Surveillance Division. I just hope that my big brother doesn't annoy you to death," Thomas says as he walks away to that big house in front of me, which I'm assuming is where he lives. "Don't listen to him. Tom is just a big party pooper. Anyway, there's one more place we need to go." Nick then takes me to a big barn-looking structure. "Welcome to the Training Grounds, also known as..."Nick then opens the big doors and I get to see the inside, "...your new home."
