Slowly opening my eyes, I blink at the sudden noise of a door slamming. I hear many voices, but none of them are ones I recognized. No one has ever been inside this house except for father. There can't be anybody else I'm sure of it. Unless someone has finally found me, but I knew not to be hopeful of such things. Good things don't happen to people like me. Girls who don't obey their fathers. Girls who should be punished forever.

Suddenly, there was a huge bang that made me jump. The door to my room slammed open to reveal a man in a police uniform. When he saw me he cursed under his breath and called the others. They all came storming in, scaring me. They tried to get near me, but I screamed in fear thinking that they were going to hurt me. I was honestly to scared to let anybody near me. After all that my dad has done to me, I don't think I would trust another living being.

I struggle in their hold, as they whisper reassuring words to me. Trying to calm me down, but nothing can sooth my racing heart. They quickly throw a blanket over me in an attempt to cover my nude body. So deep in fear I hadn't realize that I have been untied, so I take this opportunity to run as fast as I can. I wasn't used to the sudden movement so I instantly fall to the floor with a loud thud. Feeling helpless I quickly start crawling to the dark corner of my room. I bring my knees to my chest to protect me from their touch. I feel myself shaking in fear and the strain I put on my underused body.

Suddenly, I see a man walking slowly toward me with an outstretched hand. Not daring to fall for any tricks I cower back into the corner and release a low whimper. The man stops and instead of leaving like I hoped, he knelt down. Then he did something that I didn't expect, he just sat there. Staring at me through bright green eyes. My brows furrow in confusion and I tilted my head to the right. He just matched my position. I quickly went emotionless and faced straight again. He did the same thing. Then a thought occurred to me 'I always wanted to see a smile' sure I've seen them before, but that was years ago and I want to remember them again.

The beautiful genuine movement of the mouth that symbolized a persons' happiness. My father always frowned, proving his distaste for everything including me. I want to remember what the movement felt like again. After years of tears and emotionless masks I wanted to FEEL something different, SEE something different.

I blinked multiple times still looking at the man in front of me. Then I forced my lips to curve upwards. I could feel how cracked and dry my lips are in this movement, but when the man matched my smile with his own I didn't care. His eyes lit up like I have never seen before. Not from my father and definitely not from myself.

My once forced smile turned into a genuine and gentle movement. I haven't experienced anything like this in 13 years of being in this hellhole that was an empty bare room. For the first time in 13 years, I felt that tiny spark of happiness I lost when I was a little girl.
