It's been a week since I've started to live with Nixon and we have developed a daily routine. It feels weird acting so domestic with him. Every morning we wake up, make breakfast, and then take a walk. The rest of the day consists of movies, making dinner and other random things. We just mainly try to gain my strength and confidence back.
Upon arriving at his home, he showed me to my room. It was a cute little room with a beautiful view from the window. I love that it looks as comfortable as the rest of his house. It's warm, cozy, and everything I could ever ask for. I know it's not much but I love it to say the least.
I still haven't spoken at all since the first day here. Just a little writing and hand movements. It's not like I don't want to talk but I'm scared to. Even though, I feel safe with Nixon, I can't help but be paranoid. Looking over my shoulder has been a regular thing for me ever since I was rescued. I hate acting that way, but I just can't help it. I know Nixon will never hurt me. He said he will always protect me and for that I am grateful.
Today we are going to the doctors to check up on my condition. I have been eating a well-balanced diet and walking around. I just don't know if that's enough. You can still see my ribs and I still look very unhealthy. I know things like this happen over time, but I can't help but be disappointed and upset about it.
Now we are arriving in front of the hospital and preparing to see the doctor. It's the first time I will be going and I'm really nervous. Knowing I'm going to be degraded and judge by them doesn't make me feel better. It makes me afraid of even going out of the house. They held off on the appointment until I got into the swing of things. I wanted it to be a bit longer just until I gained a lot of weight but I guess not. So now here we are.
"Are you ready?" Nixon asks when we enter the waiting room. I look around seeing many men and women sitting down and nod hesitantly.
"It's going to be alright. There is nothing to be afraid of. Okay?" He wraps an arm around my waist and leads me to some open chairs. Looking around I see posters of instructions on how to stay healthy and avoid getting sick.
Suddenly, I feel something touch my hand. I look down and see a toddler maybe 4 years old staring at me. She has big beautiful blue eyes and a toothy grin on her face.
"You're very pretty" she says in a loud giggle. I smile at her when I see what she is wearing. A pink tutu with cowboy boots and a bedazzled shirt that clearly states she has had a good meal.
"Thank you. I like your shirt." I whispered and smiled at her.
"Why are we whispering? and my mom got mad when I spread spaghetti on it but I think it's artistic" she leaned toward me and whispered. I couldn't help but smile at how adorable she looked when she smiled showing her missing teeth.
"I'm whispering because it's quiet in here. I think it's artistic too. It really makes a statement" Her grin widened at that. I turned toward Nixon to find him smile softly at me. Blushing I turned back to the little girl.
"Is he your boyfriend? Ewww if he is, that is disgrusting because boys have cooties. Im Katy, princess of the princesses. The highest honor cause my daddy said so." She did a little turn making her tutu twirl with her. I can already tell this little girl loves to talk. I loved it because it's so innocent and kind of refreshing to me.
Laughing out loud I can feel my face turning red. I haven't laughed in a really long time. To be honest it feels really good to be able to again. In that moment I'm the happiest I've ever been. My life is settling and I'm getting in the routine of becoming better.
"Well, little Katy. Im Athena and this is Nixon" My smile widens when she frantically waves at Nixon and quickly makes her way towards him. I laugh as I see her leaning towards him with a stink eye.
"Do you have cooties?" She says loudly looking up at Nixon. I try to hide my laugh but when his face turns red and his eyes go wide, I couldn't handle it. He looked so adorable with a startled expression.
"No-" he was cut off when a pretty woman came towards use looking at Katy.
"Katy! What have I told you about talking to strangers. I'm so sorry if she is bothering you. She certainly likes to talk a lot." She said giving Katy a scolding look.
"No it's quite alright. We were actually enjoying our little chat with little Katy here." Nixon amended.
"Hey! It's Ms. princess of princesses to you, mister." Pointing a finger at him. Nixon just raises both hands in surrender with a teasing smile.
Suddenly, a voice comes from the nurses station calling my name. Saying goodbye to Katy and her mother, we make our way to see the doctor.
