I have this headcanon where when Lily and James got married, James wrote these really sweet vows that was something along the lines of "I'll love and protect you till the day I die" and at the time Lily thought it was cute and she laughed but one night when she's sitting there with Harry and she hear James' body fall to the ground and she knows he's dead and all she can think about is these vows.
