Johnny had been yelling at JC for half an hour. What frustrated him the most was that JC would not tell him what was so important that he had skipped out on his flight the evening before.

Justin, Chris, Joey, Lance and Alex were waiting outside of Johnny's office at the recording studio.

"If he would just tell him what this was all about, maybe Johnny would understand and let up a bit." Alex said during a break in the yelling.

"Oh, and what would you know about it?" Justin asked, suddenly suspicious that she knew more than she was letting on.

"I'm not saying I know anything so don't look at me that way." Alex snapped at him.

"Okay, don't get so defensive." Justin replied.

"So tell us what you do know, Lex." Lance cut to the chase. Alex glared at all of them for a second.

"If you tell him I told you anything, all four of you are getting cayenne pepper in your trousers for the next concert."

"Yeah, yeah. We got it. If we tell, then we're dancing funny on stage. No problem. We won't let out a peep." Chris said and the others nodded in agreement.

"He's met a girl, from West Virginia. That's why he went back there with Justin and I this week. I'm pretty sure he met her when he disappeared those times during the tour. Her name is Carey and he says they are just friends but I saw that look in his eye when he spoke about her. I think he wants them to be more than friends but well, you know."

"No we don't know. What?" Justin asked.

"You have no idea how hard it is to be dating a teen idol. Maybe she's not crazy about the idea and is reluctant to have a relationship with him. She has to be some kind of special to have JC smitten."

Just then the door opened and JC stormed out of the office. "Come on guys, we are wasting precious recording time." The others followed him down the hall to the sound booth.

"Do you really think this girl is worth it?" Joey asked JC. Alex made a mental note to kill Joey later and glared daggers into his back. JC turned around to look at Alex.

"You told?"

"I'm sorry JC. They were worried about you."

"Don't be mad at her Jace," Chris began. "We forced her."

"It's okay. Sit down, I'll tell you everything."

"You mean she doesn't know who you are?" Lance asked incredulously, after JC had explained everything.

"No." JC replied, almost a whisper. "How can I tell her that I've been lying to her for the past three months?" JC put his head in his hands and massaged his temples. "Now you know why I haven't been able to finish that song I've been working on."

"JC you haven't been lying to her. You just haven't told her the whole truth." Alex tried to comfort him. "At least you know that she cares about you and not your fame. You know that she cares about you right?"

"Well we haven't exactly said .. . things."

"Oh, that makes a difference." Alex sat down beside him and rubbed his back.

"How does that make such a huge difference?" Chris was confused.

"Chris, you, of all people, should know. If he waits to tell her the truth until after she tells him her true feelings for him, she could run out on him because of the fact that he wasn't completely honest with her. On the other hand, if he tells her the truth about his real identity before their relationship actually goes somewhere, how will he ever be sure that she's with him for him or his fame?" Chris nodded.
