Chapter 15                   The Call Home

(Scarlett's POV)

I was still lying in bed, it was early afternoon, because I had been up all night.  I knew I had another day of just staying locked in this room with Esra before I had to go back to facing what my life had become.  Even though I knew that he knew I was awake, he lay silently beside me, letting me enjoy the quiet and just being close to him.

My thoughts drifted to home, my brother, and everything else I had missed since I had been kidnapped to Italy.  I missed the days of hard work on the farm, missed Friday night bonfires on a back road, drinking beer and relaxing with my friends.  But more than anything I missed Zach, I thought.  Not only was he my brother, he was my best friend.  He was such a huge part of my life, I didn't understand how he could have been shadowed into believing that I was actually taking a year to travel around the world.  That is something I would never do.  I loved my life on the farm and living in a small town where it was the simple things in life I took the most enjoyment in.  I wondered what Kari and Bryn had been doing.  Did they miss me as much as I missed them?  I like Adella just fine but we really hadn't had time to get close, and I didn't see Tori and I becoming friends any time soon.  I wish I had my brother or a girlfriend to talk to.  Zach had been the one to care for me almost all my life.  After my Father died, my mom just kind of checked out and our relationship had gone south quickly.  Zach was the one to make sure I went to school and did my work.  He beat up boys when I was younger and he felt they had taken advantage of me.  He would still be beating them up if I didn't stop him.  I knew he would be pissed if he knew the real situation right now, but I think if he took the time to get to know Esra he would like him.  This would be one guy he could never beat up.  My brother was the toughest guy I knew.  He was definiately the tough guy of the town.  No body ever got in his way, or crossed him.  He was a fierce business man when it came to the dealings of the farm, that's who had taught me all my savvy when dealing with companies.  Yep, I would give anything to see him again.  I feared I would never see him again.  I sighed, and Esra brought his arms around my waist and drew me into his chest, kissing my lightly on the lips.

"If I asked him to tell me about you, what would he say?"  he asked me in a very soft voice.  I scowled at him.  "Ok, yes I was listening.  Don't be mad.  Just tell me what he would say about you."

I took a deep breath and listened to my brothers voice fill my head with memories of all our talks over the years.
