Marinette had been ecstatic to leave the hospital. It was Saturday, and she would have a slumber party with Alya, both of them no doubt giggling over each other's crushes, talking about their futures and cracking dirty jokes.
When Marinette had reached the bakery, she called her parents. They still had two weeks from Sunday before they would return. Going to her room with a croissant, Marinette sat down at her desk and selected some music from her computer to play. She wasn't supposed to think too much, so she couldn't really stitch any clothes. Although she could sketch!
Pulling her pink sketchbook from her bag, Marinette grabbed a pencil and drew the general shape of a mannequin. Taking a bite from her croissant, she stood up and danced to where she kept her fashion magazines, in need of inspiration.
Finding a model wearing a evening gown, Marinette had an idea. She turned in waltzing twirls back towards her desk. She had just sat down when she heard screaming.
Quickly securing a small patch of gauze on her forehead, Marinette covered her gash and grabbed Tikki, who had recovered with rest and cookies. "Tikki, Spots On!"
As Marinette's transformation completed, she walked towards her balcony and swung her yo-yo. She felt a migraine coming on and swung to where she had heard the screams. Chat Noir had already arrived. "My Lady, pleasure as always." He said, turning towards her and grabbing her hand, about to kiss it.
Irritated, Lady Bug pulled her hand away and began, "Yeah, yeah, you stupid cat. Listen, I-"
"Meow-ch! That hurt, Bugaboo!" He cried, covering his heart with both hands.
"Chat, look out!" Lady Bug yelled as a stream of water flew through the air, directly at Chat.
Ducking and rolling, Chat narrowly avoided the attack. "Why don't you go for a swim? The water's fine!" A boy - maybe a man - clad in tightly fit swim trunks and goggles yelled. He appeared to be able to manipulate the water around him, as well as force people to swim in suspended pools of floating water.
Ladybug grabbed Chat's wrist as he came near. Pulling him behind a flipped car, she explained. "I'm not on my game. You have to hold him off. I can get to the Akumatized thing and break it, but you have to most of the work."
"What? Why?" Chat asked skeptically.
Another stream of water pummeled through the car, inches from Lady Bug's head. "I have a life, and I'm not invincible."
Chat nodded in understanding. The two moved from the car when yet another torrent of water split the air between them. "Hey, Water Boy! Over here!" Chat yelled, flailing his arms.
"Its. Not. Water Boy!" The boy shot more water, draining one of the highest of the suspended pools completely.
A woman dropped from the sky, and Lady Bug was quick to catch her. The woman's face was beat, her cheek scratched and eye socket bruised and swollen. Her glasses were cracked, black and red hair tousled. Lady Bug stared at her a moment. Marinette had seen this woman before. Shaking it off, Ladybug rushed to catch another person. Head pounding with three out of five spots left on her earrings, Lady Bug attempted to attack the boy. "I'm Swimmer One!" He yelled as Ladybug grabbed the leg of the ridiculously named villain, attempting to pull him from his place on a platform of water.
Chat had been doing his best, not wanting to waste his cataclysm. While Lady Bug swung from the thrashing leg of Swimmer One, she hoped Chat would figure something out. "His goggles?" He yelled, throwing suggestions.
Ladybug could barely hold on to the villain's leg, let alone climb it. "I'm trying, I'm trying!" She called down.
"Bad choice, Lady Bug. Let go now." Swimmer One said, looking down at Lady Bug.
"No. You are to stop this madness! You can't win like thi-"
"I can! Because water kills bugs!" Swimmer One's arms raised above his head and water encircled the two.
With a twitch of his wrist, a surge of water caught Lady Bug, pulling her away from her target. "Chat!" Lady Bug screamed into the water.
Lady Bug thrashed as the rush of water carried her upwards. Trying to stop her panicking, she looked at Chat, who was running at the preoccupied Swimmer One. Jumping, Chat landed on Swimmer One's back, the flow of water stopping and dropping Lady Bug from the sky. Lady Bug, although worried about hitting the ground, watched Chat as he was also suspended in a pool of water. Whipping out her yo-yo, Lady Bug latched on to a nearby building and landed swiftly on the ground. "Lucky Charm!" She exclaimed, throwing her yo-yo high.
A net landed in her hands. Confused, Lady Bug drew the connections. This was a pool net, used for cleaning pools... and pulling things from the water!
Launching herself at another building, Lady Bug extended the net. "Where are you, Bug!?" Swimmer One exclaimed.
Lady Bug leaned over the edge of the rooftop she was on and caught Chat in the net. As soon as she pulled him out, the pool of water fell towards the ground, notifying Swimmer One that Chat was free. Chat, sick of Swimmer One, launched himself at the villain, yelling, "Cataclysm!"
Swimmer One turned around just as Chat slammed his hands into the goggles. They dissolved away and a purple butterfly flew. Swinging her yo-yo, Lady Bug caught it and cleansed it, too tired and in pain to say the usual "I'm freeing you from evil!" lines. Hearing a beep, her fingers traveled up. Two left. Throwing the net in the air, she called "Miraculous Ladybug!" Red swept the sky, cleaning up the debris and hurt people.
The swimmer sat on the ground, clutching a second place medal. "Hey, what's wrong?" Chat asked.
"My coach, he trained me so hard, and I got second..." The boy trailed off.
Lady Bug's Miraculous beeped one more time. "I gotta go, Chat." She said, waving to him.
Chat Noir's Miraculous beeped, displaying two paw toes. "I still have some time... Maybe I'll patrol for a bit." Lady Bug knew that neither of them patrolled too often to avoid conflicts with their real lives and time schedules.
But she also knew that going on patrol also meant you were avoiding a conflict in your real life. Lady Bug looked at Chat for a moment. "You better get going, that was a tough battle. You okay?" Chat asked, remembering the Miraculous and the injury.
"What? Oh, yeah. Okay, I'll go then, thanks." Lady Bug waved to Chat.
Turning, she swung her yo-yo and pulled herself atop a roof. Her head spun but she had to go, and fast. Running to a ledge, Lady Bug launched herself across a wide gap. She landed deftly on a roof. A couple more jumps to the bakery. She let her mind wander to Chat. Why was he patrolling? Whenever Lady Bug suggested it, he would always disagree and run off to his home. Aside from when the two had decided patrolling was a good idea and tried it (then decided it wasn't worthwhile), Chat had not patrolled. Let alone by himself. Whipping her arm back, Lady Bug swung her yo-yo but de-transformed midway through the jump. Releasing a scream, Marinette fell towards the ground.
"Help!"
Her fall was intercepted when a human cat caught her. "Didn't expect to cat-ch you." Chat winked, holding onto Marinette's waist as well as the wall.
Marinette rolled her eyes.
