Oh no. No no no no no. What just happened? What did I almost do? Oh no. I did not... And I was leaning in, too! Oh, that stupid cat! I blame him for being so charming and funny and cute and- What?!
Marinette battled herself internally after Chat left. Tikki flew up, sitting on Marinette's shoulder. "Ooh, Marinette has a boyfriend!" Tikki squealed.
"No! Tikki! I wasn't going to kiss him!" Marinette exclaimed.
"Are you sure, Mari?" Tikki teased.
"Tikki, what have I done?" Marinette groaned, throwing her arms up and flopped onto her bed.
Tikki, falling from Marinette's shoulder, flew up. Her face was serious and she put a tiny palm on Marinette's cheek. "Marinette, listen to me a minute. I'm being dead serious here. If you chased him, you'd both end up getting hurt. You're either going to get crushed or he's going to crumble. You know that he doesn't take rejection too well, even playfully, and I know that you won't be able to either. Especially if you start falling too deep. And what if you need to talk to him? What if you start to worry because his real life is holding him back from seeing you? You'll jump to conclusions. Long story short; one of you will end up heartbroken. Even if one little kiss doesn't bound you, it's not something you can take back. Romantic advances will destroy you both." Tikki said, concern on her face.
"Tikki, how are you always the voice of reason?" Marinette sighed.
"I'm not quite the only one." Tikki said, seeming to remember something.
Marinette sighed again. "Well, I guess I can worry about it later, then. I gotta clean this mess Chat made and then talk with Alya." Marinette stood up, surveying her room.
The two had thrown pillows about and unmade Marinette's bed. It only took a few moments to clean, and Marinette flopped back onto her bed when she was finished. Picking up her phone, she dialed Alya. It went straight to voicemail. Alya sent a text a moment later.
Can't talk. Yes?
It seemed too short for something Alya would send.
Just wondering when you plan on coming over. :P
Marinette sent back.
Oh
Alya sent. Marinette waited a couple of moments, until her phone pinged again.
I can't this weekend. Maybe some other time.
It wasn't like Alya at all. Alya would have sent kaomojis, hearts, emoticons. The aspiring journalist would have also supported her point with reasons. Marinette thought a minute before responding.
OK. You mad at me?
A moment later,
No.
Marinette gave up, placing her phone on her beside table. Although it was Saturday and Marinette would have stayed up any other day, she had a killer headache from thinking about everything and she decided to go to bed early. It was only 8.00.
Going into her bathroom, Marinette realized she had forgotten about her bandage, and fixed a new one. She noticed how attention grabbing this version - with the bandage wrapped around her entire head - versus the small patch on her forehead, obscured by her hair, was. She absent minded-ly decided to wear the small one when going out to avoid attention.
Walking back into her room, Marinette glanced at the window. It was odd how easily Chat and her had settled into being friends, especially since Chat didn't know Marinette was Lady Bug. Crawling into bed, Marinette stared at her ceiling a while. A long time had passed when she swore she heard tapping on her window. Looking over, there was nothing. Besides, even if he was there, she couldn't see that cat! Not after the disaster from earlier! Rolling over, Marinette closed her eyes and began to drift off.
-----
Marinette woke up with the sun slanting across her eyes. She felt as though it was six in the morning, but knew it was much later. She didn't really like the days shortening and the weather cooling down. Getting up without checking the time, Marinette zombie-walked to her bathroom. She combed out her hair and pinned it back, removing her bandage to wash her face. Turning on the shower, Marinette selected a tank top and some leggings. She'd find a sweater later. Placing the clothes near her sink, Marinette stripped and stepped into the shower. She hadn't checked the water and jolted as icy water sprayed her. She typically liked steaming hot showers, so she was chattering a second later, flipping the knob all the way to boiling hot. The water began to warm quickly. Adjusting it, Marinette sighed.
She stood there, staring at the wall until she began to nod off. Her head bounced up and she began to lather up with one of her many scented soaps. Her thoughts drifted back to the previous evening and Chat. Now, away from Tikki, she began to flush. His eyes... Marinette really loved his eyes. And for once he wasn't wearing that stupid smirk. He looked so genuinely happy. Marinette was happy she had cheered him up. But she knew the two of them had screwed with the simple balance they had developed in those few hours. And yet, Marinette had to admit, he was quite cute. As well as extremely charming. But Tikki had warned her not to go near him! Thinking about him definitely was not going to help.
Stepping from the shower, Marinette wrapped her hair in a towel and replaced her bandage. Her thoughts shifted over the Alya's coldness. Was Alya mad? But at what? Marinette hadn't done anything. At least not to her recollection. But she wasn't supposed to think too hard about things with her concussion, so Marinette left it and decided to do something else.
Pulling a hair dryer out from a cabinet, Marinette started drying her hair. When she was finished, she straightened and tied it back into pigtails. Marinette headed to her closet and pulled out an over sized sweater. Sitting at her desk, Marinette tried to think of something to do. Halloween was on Thursday, so Marinette decided to start working on her costume.
She had no ideas, nor a muse. With that, her thoughts drifted back to the alley cat. Although she thought about what had happened, she kept asking herself one question. What now?
