I stepped off the plane and walked down into the airport lobby. I was on my own for the first time. My parents have only just passed away and unfortunately I don't have any family in the new york area, so I have been shipped or should I say flown over to the rainy state of la push, Washington. My social worker said that I wasn't allowed to stay with any of my friends because they weren't blood relatives. I mean whats up with that? So now I'm walking through the airport looking for my cousin, Emily and her fiancee who are now my legal guardians even though I haven't seen them in over 6 years.
I looked around and saw an extremely tall man, towering over everyone else around and a petite woman with large scars slashed across her right cheek. I knew about what had happened to Emily, she had been attacked by a bear on the edge of the forest a few years ago. I tried not to stare as I made my way over. I stopped in front of them feeling slightly intimidated by the tall man in front of me. "Ummm Emily?" I asked even though I knew it was her. She immediately pulled my into a bone crushing hug. "Oh Libby, it's so good to see you." she actually sounded pleased to see me. She pulled away and smiled a sympathetic smile at me. My eyes flickered to the tall man next to us. Wow this must be awkward for him. But Emily seemed to catch on. "Oh, Libby this is Sam, Sam this is my cousin Libby." I smiled shyly at him. Gosh he was tall! He must have been nearly twice my height. "don't worry, he's not as scary as he looks." Emily let out a loud laugh and Sam a small chuckle. They must have had some inside joke that I didn't quite get. "Em we should probably go now if we want to be back before dark." Before dark? how far away was this place from here?
After we had gone to collect my vast amount of luggage which Sam seemed to be able to carry as if it was as light as a feather, and believe me it wasn't! We had walked out into the parking lot and gotten into a beaten up old pick up truck, Ew. We had to travel for over an hour to get to Emily's house.
We pulled up outside a small, red wooden bungalow type house. I had most of my things sent over a few days before in large brown boxes. I just had my essentials with me now. I climber out of the truck and stood looking at my new home in the middle of a forest. Why would someone want to put a home here. There is NOTHING here, no shops, no cinema, there wasn't even a nice view, just trees. I was steered into the house by Emily. We walked straight into a small kitchen with a wooden table that could seat about six. Why would they need such a big table? Maybe they liked entertaining? Yeah that's probably it. It was about 9:00 at night and I was exhausted, I had been travelling most of the day so all I really wanted to do was go to bed.
"Are you hungry? Do you want me to get you something to eat? Umm we have muffins and cookies or you could have some fruit or a yoghurt or I could make you a meal if you'd like, that plane food isn't very nice." Emily started rambling and I could barely get a word in. "I'm fine really Emily. If I'm honest I'd just like to go to sleep if that's okay?" She turned to face me from where she had been busying herself in the kitchen. "Yes of corse you must be tired from you long journey. I'll get sam to bring your stuff in now. Come on it's this way." She lead me to a small room at the back of the house. It had a large window facing the forest on two if the Walls with a double bed in the corner. There was another door which led to a small closet which I would probably use as an art studio. I love art. It's one of my only passions in life. Whenever I'm stressed or upset or need to think about things that is what I will do. I love everything about art. Not just the drawing or painting, I love the history as well and sculptures.
I woke up to what sounded like lots of guys arguing over something. What on earth? I climbed out of bed and walked over to my dresser. I grabbed a pair of skinny jeans and a light blue hoodie. I walked across the hall to the bathroom. My room was directly opposite so there wasn't a long way to go.I stared at the person staring back at me. I had long brown hair that hang in loose ringlets, my skin was lightly tanned but nothing compared to Sam and Emily's. I was quite tall for my age but I couldn't get away with being older than what I was. I washed my face and changed into my clothes, I tied my hair up into a messy bun. I don't wear any makeup. I personally think I'm to young to be bothering about my appearance too much. I'm only 14.
I walked out of the bathroom and down into the kitchen. No one was in there apart from Emily who was standing with her back to me cooking something. "Morning." I yawned slightly and smiled. "Oh, morning sweetie. Here." she passed me a plate with about twenty muffins on. My eyes widened and I plucked one off the top placing the rest on the table. Why did she need to bake so many muffins, I hope she didn't expect me to eat them all. "Your up early." she stated. I nodded. "What's with all the noise?" I asked suddenly remembering why I was up so early. She looked away as if she was being careful of what to say. "They're some of Sam's friends they're always around here, I hope you don't mind." I shook my head and took a bite out of my muffin.
"Boys muffins are ready!" Emily yelled into the other room, I hadn't had a chance to look in there yet. All I could hear was a stampede of feet. I looked up and saw about six giants storming towards the table where the muffins were. Holy cow they are the best looking guys I have ever seen and what makes matters worse is that none of them have shirts on. I feel my eyes widen but I look away quickly blushing, realising I was staring. I looked back up and realised none of them had even noticed I was here, few. It's not as if I stood a chance with any of them anyway they must all be like, 20. It would just be gross.
When all the muffins had gone, they were just about to head outside when Emily called them back. Oh please no Emily don't do this! "Guys, I want you to meet my cousin Libby. Shes going to be living with me and Sam now, so be nice. Now introduce yourselves." I looked unto see six face looking at me like I was some circus freak. Great. Then all but one of them broke out into smiles. I couldn't help but smile back. The tallest one on the end introduced himself first. "I'm Jacob Black." he flashed me a large toothy grin. I nodded trying to remember his name. Jacob, the tallest. The next one introduced himself. He was Quil, the one with the curlyish hair. Then there was Seth, he seemed like a happy go lucky kind of person. There was Jared and Paul but I couldn't really tell them apart very well. I turned my head to look at the last person standing in front of me. He was tall and had short black spiky hair. He was undoubtedly the best looking out of all of them . But he was staring at me, Crap I hope I don't have something on my face. I took one look into his gorgeous eyes and I was stuck, it felt as if I couldn't look away and I didn't want to either. I was finally pulled out of my trance when I heard the rest of the guys wolf whistling. I blushed scarlet and looked away, this was so embarrassing, he probably thinks I'm some freak oogling over someone way older and way out of her league. He seemed to snap out of his trance a short time and a whack over the head from Jared no Paul later. Im sure I could see a small red glow rising into his amazingly tanned cheeks. "Umm...I I I'm" he stuttered, aww he sounded so cute when he stutters, wait snap out of it Libby! "E-Embry... My names Embry." I smiled Embry. I love that name. I nodded "Its nice to meet you all." I smiled and turned to Emily so that I wouldn't stare again. Emily was looking between me and Embry with a look of , is that pride?
Jacob was the first to talk after a long awkward silence, well I seemed to be the only one who found that awkward but. "Well we should probably go and find Sam and tell him the news." Wait what news? Emily nodded. "come on Embry let's go." Jacob sighed. This caught Embrys attention, "wait what, no no no I'm not going anywhere!" he protested. Jacob grabbed his arm and attempted to drag him away, his eyes were locked on me as in watched the scene before me unfold. Then Jared grabbed his other arm and they literally pulled him out of the door. I heard a lot of something that sounded like growling coming from outside. Why wouldn't he want to go so bad? "I want to stay with her!" I heard him yell. Stay with who? Emily? Okay I am seriously confused. I turned to look at the other guys for some sort of explanation but they all just shrugged and walked back into the other room apart from Seth.
"So where'd you come from before you came here?" Seth asked me. It kind if scared me a bit. I expected him be staying for more food or something. "Ur New York" a smile grew on his face "Wow I've always wanted to go there." I nodded "Yeah it's really nice." Emily was now looking out the window into the forest with a smile on her face, I wonder what she saw. "have you been out for a look around yet?" he asked me, I shook my head. "come on I'll show you around." he stood up and looked towards me. I slid off my chair and stood up,
I followed him out the door into the large field Emily called her backyard. Seth slung his arm over my shoulder leading me towards the road. I looked towards the forest over my shoulder. A crippling howl echoed around us. A wolfs howl. The poor thing sounded like it was in pain. Seth tensed slightly for a few seconds but quickly regained his original posture. I wonder what that was all about, I was going to ask him but decided to let it slide.
A/N okay so this is my first chapter so tell me what you think?
