"Embry let's go!" Sams voice echoed through the house. Embry took one last look at me before running into the kitchen out the front door, into the pouring rain. I could vaguely see two figures running towards the forest. Where are the going? And why did they all run off so quickly when a wolf howled? Something isn't right here.
There's wolves here. Actual wolves living in the forest. Right next to me. Shit. There's no way I will be able to sleep tonight. I decided to do the only thing that can take my mind off of the wolves. I stood up from position on the couch and headed to my room. As I passed through the kitchen I noticed everyone had left apart from Emily who had her head in her hands with a worried expression on her face. I wiped my face of any remaining tears before sitting down opposite Emily.
"Is everything alright Emily?" I asked, she seemed to snap out of a trance when she looked over at me.
"Oh what? Yeah I'm fine, Sam's fine, everyone's fine. I had better start making some food for when they get back, yeah that's what I'll do, all that running around makes them hungry." I've never heard Emily sound so panicked before, but then again I've only been here a few days. She quickly stood up and started rummaging around in the fridge. Wait did she sat running around? Running around where? Why? I stood up and pushed my chair back under the table.
"I'm just going to be in my room if you need anything." I quickly left before I had a chance to hear her reply. I headed straight towards the closet in my room where I stored my art supplies. I grabbed my sketch pad and pencils from their special case and took them to the small desk in the corner of the room. I opened the pad to a brand new clear page. I decided to draw from the top of my mind for a change, usually I draw my surroundings, but I was too scared to even look out the window. See that's what I liked about New York, there were no scary animals that could kill you with one bite. It was safe... Or so I thought.
I must have spent a good three hours in my room before the growl in my stomach interrupted my concentration. I sighed and looked down at what I had just drawn. Toby. My old puppy from when I was younger. He wasn't really a puppy, he was just one of those dogs that always looked young. Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago. I stood up from the desk, flipping the pad closed as my chair scraped across the hardwood floor. I wandered back down to the kitchen. They still weren't back from where ever they were running. I grabbed a couple of cookies from the tray on the table, there must have been at least 100 in the pile. Emily was working on another batch so I decided to leave her to it and retreat back to my room. I quickly ate my cookies before looking out the window. It was pitch black. I wandered over to the bathroom and prepared myself for bed. I slid on some purple plaid bottoms, a vest top and a purple zip up hoodie. I climbed into my warm cozy bed and settled down.
I couldn't shake the nervous feeling that had creeped into my stomach. I tossed and turned for at least an hour with no luck of finding sleep. It must have been that documentary. Damn it. An agonising howl ripped through the night and my stomach clenched. Something was wrong, I don't know what but something was definitely wrong.
I woke up around six the next morning unable to get back to sleep. I must have had about three hours sleep overall, so I was a wreck. Thank god it's Saturday and only a week until summer break. I showered quickly, putting on a pair of skinny jeans with a tee shirt that says don't touch I bite. I found it pretty ironic seen and I was always considered the nice one at my old school. I quickly grabbed a grey knitted cardigan before drying my hair and leaving it in it's natural waves. I walked down the hall towards the kitchen where I heard about four people talking... Who is up this early? Wait they're back, does that mean Embry's here? I give up. I'm so not getting over this crush anytime soon.
I walked into the kitchen and my eyes went directly to the person I wanted to see most. Embry. I sigh of relief spread through me. His eyes met mine almost instantly as if he knew I was looking at him. He gave me his signature beam and I felt myself smiling back.
