I dragged myself down the stairs and into my study where Jackson awaits. As I entered he was sitting in my chair with a playful smirk on his face. "What?"
"Don't what me, man. I'd probably do the same right about now." He chuckled as I rolled my eyes at him. Then he frowned. "But then again, she's angry right now because of all these meetings." He sighed and ran a hand down his face.
He got off my chair and walked around switching places with me. I sat down and looked through my notes of whereabouts of my pack and how they're all doing in each individual pack houses. "Where's Gamma?" I asked without looking up. I silently sighed in relief when I didn't find anything major. Then in came Gamma Axel.
"Sorry, Alpha. Had to make the rounds before I came," he apologized as I excused him.
"Report," I simply said as Gamma sat down.
"More rogue sightings at the borders. They don't do anything but sit there and watch us as we do the same. The number of rogues we've been seeing has been increasing lately."
"What are they exactly doing, Gamma?" I asked as I watched him.
"It's as if they're waiting for some-," he cut himself off. "Just in, our warriors saw at least a pack of five at one end of the west border and another five at the end of south border. I have the men stationed near by to keep an eye on them all."
I looked at Gamma with stern eyes. I clenched my jaws and hands. "Get back out there and keep the rogues in check. Watch your back out there too Gamma. Those rogues are here for something, and I want to know what."
Gamma nodded and stood. "How many?"
I didn't even have to think about this answer. "Their best fighters."
Gamma smirked and turned to leave. I looked over to Beta who was deep in thought with his brows almost connecting. "Beta," I called out but he was still in his moment.
"Be-" he raised a hand to stop me.
I sighed and leaned back in my chair aggravated. I crossed my arms and waited for him to finish. "She's making me sleep on the couch. What the fuck did I even do?!"
"Marrying her," I snapped. Beta looked at me confused as I narrowed my eyes at him. "She wasn't even your true mate, Beta. Why do you think I don't even give a shit about what she ever says to me? Now can you shut the fuck up about her already?"
Beta slumped his shoulders. "She's still my mate, Alpha," he grumbled childishly as I deeply sighed. "I wanted someone to call as mine. I was just that desperate."
"Yet, you married the one girl that had a short temper, thinks she's boss, spoiled, a brat, self-centered-"
"Okay!" Beta yelled out dreadfully. "Jesus, man."
I shook my head and handed my laptop over to him. "Get to work," I ordered as I went through the rough documents.
Hours went by and we were almost done for the day. I looked to the clock on my computer and sighed. "What's wrong, Alpha?" Beta asked as he didn't leave his eyes off the screen of the laptop.
"It's close to midnight and I'm not with my mate," I mumbled.
"You're lucky she even wants you," he scoffed. "Mine is just being unreasonable."
"That's because she couldn't get to be Luna, Beta," I said as I crossed my arms and turned my chair to look at him.
"Whatever man," he said defeated.
"What are you going to do once you find your true mate?" I asked curiously. "Are you able to reject her? Are you really able to just let her go?"
He stopped punching in keys. He glanced up at me with a murderous look. "I have a mate and a child with her. I have no choice but to reject my true mate."
I smirked, mocking him. "Of course," I said as I turned off my computer and putting everything away. "But do tell me something though, Jackson. As a friend, if, that is, we are even friends anymore. Why haven't you marked her?"
Ever since I've became Alpha, my responsibilities have taken over my life and I was forced to give up friendships so I won't be able to feel guilt when I order them around. It took awhile but I eventually put all friendships to bay. Even if I grew up right beside them.
Beta sighed. "You're still my friend, Sol. I know what your dad did to...you know, get you into the act of the Alpha position so I don't blame you at all. It's all good." He gave me a small smile then nodded. "But to answer your question, it's my wolf who doesn't want to mark her. He just...doesn't want to?"
I looked at him as he tilted his head in a confusing way as if trying to make sense out of it himself. "I mean, I want to but the process of the mark done completely by our wolves. It's something I don't have control over. If my wolf doesn't want to mark her, he just doesn't."
I smirked and stood up, pushing my chair in. Beta saved his work and closed the laptop then brought it over and placed it on my desk. "Jackson, it means your wolf didn't even want her either." I patted Jackson's back as I chuckled when he gave me a deep frown. "My wolf was the same way when we met Madeline at the mate chase. We didn't-"
I abruptly stopped talking and tuned into the house. Heavy footsteps treaded upstairs. "Surround the house!" I yelled then I darted out the study and up to our room to only get blasted with a masking scent in the face, making my smelling senses to go fuzzy along with my vision. I was roughly thrown to the wall as the heavy footsteps ran out the room and down the stairs.
"Beta! Someone's in the house!" I linked angrily. "Get the Luna! I'm blinded."
I stumbled to stand and rubbed my eyes but that didn't help whatsoever. I hastily made my blinded way out of the room and down the stairs, using the wall for guidance. Once I made it down the stairs, yelling was heard and then crashes. "Get the fuck back here!" Beta growled followed by a thud.
I whirled my head left to find two blurs fighting each other. Both wearing black. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't see or smell anything. I was useless.
I squinted my eyes to find someone getting flung off and hit the wall. "Gah! Fucking bitch!" Beta cursed as he struggled to stand and with that, I darted forward and tackled the person down and sent multiple punches to their face.
I was then thrown off. Hard. Hitting my head on the ground on my way down and nearly knocked out.
A loud grunt then sounded with a crash. The heavy footsteps ran off and faded away. "Fuck!" Beta cursed.
"Beta! Are you okay?!" I struggled to stand and when I did, my head started spinning as something warm trickles down the side of my face. I wiped it off to find red.
I staggered over to him to find him lying on the ground but before I could reach him, I collapsed to the ground.
