The hot boiling rays from the sun burnt holes through the leaves as the ashes singed to the ground. Crowds of dehydrated people were gasping for drops of water -what seemed to them-the most precious thing at the time. Although Inc never felt that insane instinct for water; He felt it as if it was food, giving him power and replenishment not draining him of all strength. As Inc picked up the pace glancing at his watch he remembered the whole reason he was out here in the blazing heat in the first place. School, not just any school but new school, just about the worst kind you could get. Inc had relentlessly been moving because of his mum's job kept flickering like a candle light; always hesitating to blow out and melting, reforming, melting, reforming relentlessly. Right now it wasn't looking so good for Inc's mum so far.
As Inc solemnly approached the school gates; buzzing bees were protecting their hive surrounded the grounds. Inc felt like a foreigner although he had applied for the school, he still felt like he wasn't wanted the reason why he was dragged out of every school.
"Hi my name is Incendium but everyone calls me Inc." as he introduced himself, but friendly as he was it seemed like it wasn't enough as the children kept ignoring him. There was a sound proof glass and Inc was on the other side.
Alone.
Through the hallways of the giant-sized school were rows of doors positioned accurately down the dull walls giving the effect of two rows of blunt flat teeth. Inc was mesmerised by the uniqueness of the school, it wasn't like any other he had been to. It almost had a sort of ancient feeling to it; Inc felt he connected in some way to the school. The faint ringing of the beginning of class bells, lassoed Inc back to reality. As if Inc's mind had been erased, had no idea what he was doing or where he was. Then it sparked back, like a fire reborn from the ashes, he was in school and if he didn't stop standing around there was a possibility he would be kicked out of it. Running as fast as a silver bullet, Inc dashed to his first class of the day. It was chemistry, it wasn't Inc's favourite lesson let alone his best, but he loved using fire in any experiment. That would always make up for any boring part of the lesson.
As Inc reached the classroom; everyone else was already there, all in his or her own friendship groups. Inc had already tried making friends in the playground before, but that ship had already sailed before Inc had even got there. The only free seat was the one right in the dingy corner of the classroom, where ironically the sun's rays couldn't quite stretch. There being no other choice, Inc sluggishly walked down the paper shed path as he made his way to his seat. Sudden silence engulfed the room as everyone came to terms there was an outsider, a stranger amongst them, who didn't know the classroom customs and the background knowledge of the school. The class didn't have a lot of time to process this new establishment to their clan, because their teacher had just arrived.
This peculiar figure strode effortlessly into the classroom, even though he looked like he needed a walking stick. His long pruned beard swept the floor of all its dust choking the students as he went along. Without a word he sat down, picked up the icy chalk piece, dragging it across the inky black board, almost unaware of his actions. Sloppily, he began to write his name weaving the chalk piece left and right. Inc was just able to make sense of it from where he was positioned. Hopefully, his eyes hadn't failed him, he saw Mr... Lucem? Inc thought to himself, what a weird name, Inc had never heard it before; it must be foreign, although it did fit rather well with his peculiarity scale. Come to think of it, who was this man and why hadn't he even opened his mouth to speak yet, or even teach us anything?
Soon enough Inc's question was answered, Mr Lucem's mouth did open but no words cane spilling out afterwards. All there was was this dark hole where only a tongue could be seen. Mr Lucem did have teeth but only the mere tips could be seen. The rest of the teeth had been hidden away by an ivy white moustache that had sneakily crawled its way down Mr Lucem's face. Many of the children, slowly being released from the trance they had been set in by this man's appearance, now were bored and the murmur had been rekindled. Only Inc, kept studying Mr Lucem, and as if Mr Lucem knew Inc was watching he turned and looked at him as well. They both stared at each other's souls through each other's eyes that worked like gates. They were both encaged in their own thoughts. Although this did not last long; as if from nowhere a bellowing "SILENCE!" came from the minute mouth of the teacher.
Everyone, after this sudden crack in all of the chatter, was yanked into up right position. All eyes were now on Mr Lucem. " Thank you, I thought I was never going to get your attention while you were rambling on about all your modern nonsense," His voice was raspy yet still clear although you could tell it was aged, " Now, today's lesson will be on the decreasing temperature of water. As I do know many of you do like using fire in many experiments." Had Inc just heard what he thought he heard; fire! They would be using fire, it was as if Mr Lucem had been reading his mind.
Mr Lucem stared at Inc intently, boring into his eyes, searching for something. This day wasn't going to be too bad after all.
