Chapter Three: Annual Meeting
Maila trotted through the forest, finding herself being lead towards where she'd seen Octavia last.
She'd tried to avoid the strange pull towards the small hill of butterflies, but she couldn't anymore. Malia didn't expect to see Octavia again but felt as of she was waiting for her.
She sniffed for a moment, hoping to catch the scent of Octavia, but only smelt blood. Human blood.
This confused her, making her run faster towards the the hill. Her blue eyes brightened at the sight of the dark haired girl, but felt the atmosphere around her sad and depressing.
Malia took cautious steps towards Octavia until she could see the tears falling down her cheeks. Octavia was clutching her leg and it was only then Malia saw what was wrong.
She didn't know why she hadn't seen it the other day, but she sure as hell did now.
Octavia's leg was in terrible condition. The flesh was torn and bloody, most likely from the giant water snake. Malia couldn't do anything, though she wished she could.
"Malia?" A sniffled and choked voice called out.
Malia looked over at Octavia, who now looked at the wolf in happiness and comfort. Her arm was extended, as if to let Malia sniff. Malia walked right up and nuzzle her head into Octavia's side.
Octavia's arm wrapped around Malia as she let herself cry a little more, feeling oddly comforted by the werecoyote. Malia back up and walked over to the cut, tilting her head to the side in thought.
She then lowered her head to sniff the wound, before liking it with her tongue. She had never tasted blood like hers, but she knew to never do it again after this.
She continuously licked the wound until all the blood was gone. The wound now looked like a scab, no longer bloody and fresh. Possibly one of the gifts she was given from the nuclear bombing.
"Thank you." Octavia said, smiling as she rubbed Malia's fur.
Malia didn't understand why she was being like this towards the dark haired girl, but she didn't mind it much. She enjoyed the company the girl gave her.
Malia laid down beside Octavia, giving her the company and comfort she needed at this time. Octavia was grateful that the wolf had found her or she would have been sitting here for hours all alone.
It only lasted an hour when there was a twig snap and Malia was on all fours, teeth bared and in attack mode. Octavia was on her knees and trying to pull the wolf back, but she wouldn't budge.
Coming out from behind the tree was an older looking boy, kind of looked like Octavia.
"Bellamy? What are you doing here?" Octavia asked. Malia felt herself lean back from the stance once she realized Octavia knew this boy.
"Get behind me." He ordered, bringing Malia back to her attack stance as he pointed the gun at the wolf.
"No, don't hurt her." Octavia took a brave step infront of the gun, blocking Malia from its view.
Malia was confused at this action. What in God's name was Octavia doing standing in front of a gun. And protecting Malia.
"O, stop fooling around. Come with me before you get hurt." Bellamy grabbed her arm tightly and pulled, making Malia bark rapidly.
Octavia pulled her arm pack and crouched infront of Malia, making her gaze away from Bellamy for only a moment.
"Go, come back later tonight." She whispered into the wolf's ear, knowing she understood her perfectly.
Malia gave Octavia a small luck to the cheek before sprinting off into the distance. Octavia turned on her heel to give her brother a death glare before stomping back into camp.
People looked at Octavia, then her leg, wondering how it'd healed so quickly. She ignored all the stares as she went into her tent and zipped it shut.
Kicking her shoes off, Octavia fell back onto her mattress with a sigh as she looked up and the sky from the small netted skyroof.
Sneaking out to see Malia again would be easy, but keeping Bellamy from watching her every move would be difficult. He knew of Malia's existence and was most likely going to be one watch for the first shift.
"Keep an eye on her. Make sure she doesn't leave again." Bellamy said as he began to walk towards the gates.
"Where are you going?" Octavia asked, jogging and pulling her brothers shoulder. Surprisingly her leg no longer felt as painful as it did a few days ago.
"On a hunt."
