Iris's POV
I walk back through the backdoor that I had left slightly cracked in my hurry to get outside. I head left as I make it inside, through the living room, which has large grey pillow couches.
I used to play here with Veronica a long, long time ago. It's shocking to think that I was once best friends with my tormentor when we were younger. How even does friendship like ours turn into something so sour and hateful? I've always asked myself this question, but I never seem to be able to come up with a sufficient and plausible answer. I guess that I don't like to think of the realistic answers of what could have possibly happened, only the scenarios that make me feel a little bit better on the inside. Something like, maybe she is being threatened by a secret organization and if she doesn't make my life hell then the whole pack will be punished for it.
Oh well. No use in dwelling on the past in that area. No way I can change it now.
I make my way up the grand staircase in the front entry hall, heading down the hallway to the door at the very end to the right. Alpha Harland's office.
I knock lightly and wait for confirmation that I am allowed to enter.
"Come in." I hear from behind the door.
I open the door as quietly as I could possibly manage with how loudly the hinges squeaked. I would get really annoyed if I had to hear that every time I open or close a door.
Alpha was sitting at his grand mahogany desk, looking down at some paperwork that was piled onto his desk messily.
"One moment please, Miss Iris." Alpha Harland spoke without looking up from the papers.
For as long as I can remember the alpha has always called me miss, I've never really asked him why he does, he just does. Even when I was a little child.
Alpha Harland has that 'aged gracefully' kind of look. He has dark brown hair with gray at his temples. He has olive toned skin and a face that look like a loving dad, with the crow's feet at the corners of his eyes. The only thing that could be taken as imposing from his appearance would be his height, which is around six and a half feet.
"Thank you for coming to see me so quickly." Alpha Harland beamed toward me.
"I can't exactly say no to a command from my alpha." I mumbled back to him. I look down at my toes, stretching them out and curling them up, over and over again.
"Well coming to see me wasn't an order, but I do have request for you, my dear." He says happily.
I raise my eyebrow at him and signal for him to go on with what he was going to say to me.
"Well," He goes on, "There is a gathering of the packs, called together by the alpha of the Twin Boulder Pack, and I would like for you to come along with us this time." He gives me a big grin.
'The...um..what?' I think to myself.
Well it doesn't really sound like my kind of thing, too many people for my taste.
I sigh heavily.
Looking back at alpha, he looks very hopeful, and with that look I know that I have no real choice in the matter.
I nod my head, clenching my fists. "It would be my honor to come along with you, Alpha Harland." I say in a quiet voice.
"Great! I though that you would say no, this makes me extremely happy." He says with a grin.
