"You need to push Rachel! It's time!" I heard someone yelling from inside the hospital room. I got up from the cold, marble floor and wiped the bead sweat off my face. I stepped forward with slight caution and looked into the tiny window through the hospital door.
It doesn't feel like nine months. If you told me ten months ago that I would have a sibling in less than a year, I would have just laughed in your face. My only way of telling that my mom was going to give birth was the small bump rising on her stomach. Sure I stood by her the whole way through, but I never thought time would go by so quick.
The anticipation was killing me whether I would have a little brother or little sister. My parents refused to get one of those tests letting you know the gender. They told me it's supposed to be a happy surprise. As a matter of fact, I still remember my parents telling me about the pregnancy...
"Harry, sweetheart, we need to tell you something." My mom directed me to the black leather couch. I sit in my usual spot as my mom and dad, holding hands, sit down across from me on the other couch. "Harry...",a fearful pause turned into a hopeful one. "...I'm pregnant." My vision got blurry as I repeated the words in my head 'I'm pregnant'. I fell back on the couch and my vision let go. Everything went silent...
*Now*
I was hoping for sister. I don't think I could deal with another guy in the house.
I leaned back on the wall and slid down to the floor listening to the screaming from my mom, the orders from the doctor and nurses, and the unsure instructions from my dad.
It was scary, being out here alone. Yes some random nurse would come along every so often and question why a nine year old boy was sitting in the pregnancy hall of the hospital. I would just point to the golden plaque on the door reading 'Rm. 423' and the nurse would understand. Yet, I was still lonely. I had no one to talk to, no one to share my terrified feelings with. I wanted to burst open the doors and grab my mom's hand to stand next to her, comfort her.
The screaming stopped. I scrambled up from the floor and pressed my face to the window. A small, high pitched cry came from the silent room. I looked at my relieved mom, then to the bundle of blankets she was holding in her arms. A nurse was coming towards the door and I leaned back on the wall. "You may come in." The nurse seemed pissed, but I didn't mind. Slowly I walked over to the hospital bed, my mom looking up at me. She was smiling. I've never seen her so happy. I just wanted to rip my phone out and take a picture of her happiness. My dad put his hand on my back and lead me next to the hospital bed. I looked down at the bundle and saw a little pink head popping out. I wanted to ask if it was a boy or a girl but I couldn't talk.
"Harry, say hello to your new sister, Violet." My mom uncovered the baby's face more. I felt a hot tear roll down my pale cheek. Violet was beautiful. This was everything I wanted. I have a sister. "H- Hello... Violet." I stutter, at least something even came out of my mouth. I wanted to hold her tight and never let go. My world was rapped in a cheap Target blanket held in my mom's arms.
About a half an hour later a nurse took Violet and brought her into a separate room. "W- Where are they taking her?" Is all I managed to ask. "She needs to be properly handed for a few minutes, sweetheart." Although I didn't understand what she meant I nodded my head in response. They brought her back in the room with a little pink bow in her hair. Ew, I hatepink. She instantly grabbed the bow and threw it onto the ground. I laughed, I like her already.

I lay on the leather couch half asleep with 11 month old Violet. I listen to her small heartbeat against my chest. I'm gripping her strongly while singing a slow lullaby. Although I know she can't hear me and is fast asleep, I continue struggling to keep my own eyes open. As I start to give up and fall asleep I hear a small yawn. My eyes shoot open and I sit up carrying Violet in my arms.
