Fire

Making a fire was the part of the trip Dean was most anxious about because that was where everything had gone South back on that camping trip when he was a kid

So when Castiel suggested it he started to grow nervous and worry that somehow he'd mess up again and ruin the trip.

Castiel picked up on this and tried to make Dean feel more at ease.

"Okay so first we make a ring out of stones to contain the fire when it starts burning." He instructed

"Why don't you go find some Sam?" He suggested, wanting to be alone with Dean whilst he did this because he knew Sam was probably unintentionally reminding Dean of the awful camping trip from his childhood.

Sam sighed "Why do I have to go get all the stuff?" He complained but went anyway, mostly because he hoped that they'd somehow realize their obvious feelings for each other whilst he was gone.

Once Sam had left Dean noticeably relaxed a little "We didn't actually need the stones. I have some here." Castiel confessed, opening up his hand and revealing some.

Dean frowned "Then why did you-"

Castiel cut him off "Sam reminds you of that negative experience so I decided to make him leave for a bit then you'll be more relaxed." He explained

Dean couldn't argue because he had relaxed since Sam had left even though he wasn't aware of it.

"Alright." He grunted "How do we do this?" He asked as Castiel created a ring of stones in the middle of the campsite.

"Well first we need something that'll catch easily." He picked up some dry leaves and put them in the middle of the circle "Then we build the fire in a sort of tepee around it."

Dean slowly nodded, listening as Castiel expertly explained how to build a fire. He was impressed that the angel knew so much.

Castiel was glad when Dean showed that he was listening and continued talking "First we need kindling to add to the leaves which is really tiny bits of dry stuff."

Dean smirked "Like your sense of humour?"

Castiel frowned "No Dean, you cannot burn a sense of humor." He replied bluntly, proving Dean's point.

Dean chuckled quietly to himself  and but didn't comment and let Castiel continue.

"Alright so pass me some tiny twigs and leaves. Anything you think will catch easily."

Dean nodded and looked through the pile of various sticks, twigs and logs Sam had collected and soon had a handful of twigs and other easily flammable objects.

Castiel smiled "Good." He praised as Dean carefully piled them up along with the leaves.
He kept his mannerisms calm as well as his voice so that Dean would remain calm and be able to enjoy this experience as much as possible and without thinking about the trip with his father and Sam.

It was working and now Dean wasn't even thinking about his father's outburst all those years ago. He was just focusing on Castiel.

"Now we need to arrange sticks around the pile in increasing size." The Angel continued and gestured to the pile "Can you pass me some small sticks?" He asked

Dean nodded and quickly sought out some small, thin sticks which were just bigger than the twigs they'd used for kindling.  He then handed them to Castiel who nodded in approval.

"Good. Thank you Dean."

Dean smiled but tried to hide it as he watched Castiel arranging the sticks, admiring the adorable expression of concentration on his face; there was a cute little wrinkle between his eyebrows and he had his tongue slightly stuck out.
