Chris and Viper looked to me with clear unease. it was obvious that they both expected me to answer. But I was as speechless as they were. None of the sugar coated lies that usually dripped off my tongue with ease, were presented. I forced myself to give the girl a small smile, but as soon as I did, I realized it probably looked more like a grimace.

The girl- whose eyes looked like black coal, stared at us all, in a mixture of fear and what appeared to be admiration. She was small in stature, possibly a few inches shorter than me. Her curly dark brown hair was stuck to her face with sweat, it looked as if she had not brushed it in weeks. Something about her instantly reminded me of Lilia. Had I not been trained to show little emotion, I would've broken down and crumbled to the floor in grief.

"Who are you?" I could hear the fear in her voice rise up as she repeated her question.

I was quietly weighing my options, I could lie to the girl, come up with some brilliant lie about how we were undercover FBI agents. Or I could do the unthinkable and tell this girl, practically a child, the truth. The wailing of the impending police sirens broke through my contemplation. I could feel the color drain from my face, my heart seemed to jump into my throat. Chris and Viper remained silent, but it was clear that they had become as anxious as I had.

"I don't think we have much time for introductions," Viper looked to the four of us,

I shook my head, "No, I suppose we don't."

"So then what are we going to do about..." Chris spoke softly, vocalizing the question that was on all of our minds.

I sighed and pursed my lips, "She has to come with us."

If you had seen the look Viper gave me, you would've thought I'd grown an extra head. "Have you gone mental?!" Her voice was loud and shrill.

"Well, she can't stay here!" It would be wrong to leave the poor girl here, and for whatever reason I felt bad for not giving her any answers.

An exasperated sigh escaped Viper's mouth, but she had no argument. The three of us turned to look at the girl, who, unfortunately, was still to shocked to move. She stared up as us, wide eyed. Looking very much like a scared animal she started to quickly back away from us. The slight admiration had left her face, leaving only fear in its place.

"Wait-" I'd started to say, just as she turned to run.

Viper groaned, "Chris, could you..." She gestured toward the direction that the girl had run off in. Chris quickly disappeared, and a few seconds later, reappeared with the squirming child in his arms.

"I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH YOU" She screamed and desperately tried to get away.

I felt a stab of sympathy for the girl, she didn't ask to be here. It wasn't her fault that she was here. In any other circumstances I would've left her here without so much as a second glance. But for some reason, for some odd reason, I couldn't.

I smiled ruefully, " Tough luck hun. It looks like you're gonna have too, " Then just to possibly ease her fear I added, " Don't worry, we're actually not terrible people" I don't think it helped.

We were in Chris' dark green SUV in a matter of seconds. The girl kicked, punched, clawed, bit and pulled anything she had access to. Eventually, Viper took out a small syringe, filled with a light green colored liquid. While Chris and I held down the struggling girl, Viper shoved the tiny needle into the crook of her arm. The girl gave a few more weak attempts at fighting us off before falling back into the seat, in a dead sleep.
