Fala and I followed after Viper, but by the time we turned the first corner, we had lost sight of her. I let out a sigh of frustration; she was always doing things like this; running off without telling anybody what was bothering her. And the funny thing was, you could always tell when something was bothering her, the girl truly wore her heart on her sleeve. But as usual, she’d probably end up running back when she was less pissed or depressed or whatever, and act as though nothing was ever wrong. She, like most of us here, was definitely a complicated person.
I led Fala through the long hallways, past the dining room and kitchen and into the Control Center. Adam was frantically talking to Agent Marano, who looked nervous, and everyone (literally EVERYONE) who lived at the Institution, stood around the center. By instinct, I grabbed hold of the girl’s wrist and tried to find Chris or Viper. After a quick scan around the room, I noticed that Viper was definitely missing and Chris was a few feet away talking to another student. I quickly led Fala to where he was, constantly checking behind me to make sure that I still held onto her wrist, and no one else’s.
Once I was a few steps away, I saw exactly who he was talking to. Her long, perfectly curly, blonde hair framed her face softly, and her clear skin was flawless, save for a small beauty mark above the right side of her upper lip. Storm Vega was beautiful and deadly, and looking as prim and tall as always. On first glance, you’d probably think she was sugary-sweet and a joy to be around, a total innocent. You couldn’t be more wrong; she’s cruel and calculating, the most ruthless of us all. And, unfortunately she didn’t like me very much. Part of it had to do with the fact that I was the last female student in our grade that was recruited, so I had the pleasure of being trained by Shayla. And the other part had to do with the fact that she was a cold, heartless bitch. But, I’m biased, she could very well be somewhat nice, sometimes, ya know once every blue moon or whatever; I’ve just personally never experienced anything of the sort from her. Not that there was any love lost between us; I didn’t particularly care for her either. Something about her just rubbed me the wrong way. I’m convinced it’s the blonde hair to be honest, I’ve never liked blondes. Dunno why, just never have.
You see, there aren’t many rules here at the Institution. But one of the most important, never-cross-or-you-could-die rules is to, never, never; openly talk about how you got into the Institution. I mean, of course people still told, just outside of the Institution’s walls. And as expected, there were always rumors circulating about how so and so got here. And while it is very well known that have the most extensive criminal record- although no one knows exactly what I’ve done, Storm’s record is rumored to be the most deadly. The most popular rumor being, that she and her twin brother, Dylan, shot and killed three police officers and then hijacked their cruiser all because one of them looked at Storm the wrong way. Honestly, I think it’s a load of bull. For one, it just sounds illogical and for two, despite being Storm’s twin, Dylan is too law-abiding to kill a police officer or stand by while Storm killed one. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, why would he be admitted into the Institution if he’s “law-abiding”? Well for one, he’s a fucking genius; literally, he’s considered gifted and talented. And for two, he’s an amazing hacker and strategist; honestly there is more to being a mercenary than being ruthless and stealthy.
I stood there and watched Chris put his shoulder around Storm while she laughed at something he said. They’re intimate, I thought. I contemplated going over there, just to casually make sure Chris didn’t accidently say the wrong thing and get shot. Then I thought better of it and was about to turn around when, Storm’s icy, blue eyes caught my sapphire ones. Instantly, her facial expression changed and her smile faded into a thin line, her eyebrow arched in a questioning manner. I bet she thinks I’m staring at her or something. Conceited ass, I rolled my eyes. With a flick of hair, I turned around and walked back into the crowd.
