Hughes was hiding behind the pillar, ready to grab Angie when she steps out of her room. And at the same time, Cecil had dress herself in the maid’s costume and even disguises her face and hair, simply to lead Angie to her designated place. Bianca and Henry are readying the place they want Hughes and Angie to meet and even had bribed Lizzy to play in the nursery to avoid their plan being disturbed.
Apparently neither Hughes nor Cecil’s plan work out as Angie received a letter and currently packing her luggage in a hurry, determine to return to her home regardless of hour and weather. Then she and her maid climb into their carriage and Mike drove off before Hughes could utter goodbye to her. Still standing on the porch, Hughes watches the carriage and then blink, trying to grasp the current situation.
“It seems Angie had an emergency to take care of.” Cecil commented at his side and Hughes turn to blink at her, wondering over her colored hair. “She said as much to me. Whatever it is, it has set Angie worried enough because I never seen her with that look.”
“I hope it is nothing too serious.” Hughes said and feeling a tad let down and sad, exactly like a little boy who had lost his favorite toy. Cecil narrowed her eyes at him and then smirks wickedly.
“Why Hughes, did I hear you speak of concern for the sweet lady?” Hughes frowns at his sister and wish they are still children so that he can smack her.
“It is a normal thing to be concern with another human being CC, it is call empathy, or hadn’t you learned it?” Cecil scoffs and slams her foot on Hughes leg happily.
“That is clearly an insult to my intelligence.” Cecil huff as Hughes hop from one foot to another, hissing in pain and cursing the shoe maker. “Just say that you were really worried about Angie and I wouldn’t have bothered you. You might as well propose to her quickly before I point a gun at you-“
“And I really should tell William that he shouldn’t have let you carry a gun.” Hughes quickly cut her ranting and Cecil lifted her foot to aim again and Hughes knew she had a devil of aiming skill.
“I don’t need a gun to bother you Hughes, my foot is enough for it. When are you proposing her?” Hughes roll his eyes, knowing that Cecil is a devil of persistence too, bordering the aggravation line.
“I did, once.” Hughes pauses while Cecil openly gaped wide. “It is not a proper proposal at that time though.” Cecil sputtered and then shakes her brother.
“How could you?”
“Must I tell you?” Hughes replied back as soon as Cecil let him go. “I was beginning to think of courtship after mother issued the order. And…” Cecil gape and gasp when Hughes blush a bit.
“Oh…my…” Cecil fans her face with her hand and then she had to go inside to sit down. It will not do for the neighbors to see her sitting at the step in front of the house.
“So I would really appreciate it if you and mother didn’t meddle.” Cecil glares at Hughes and kick his leg when he took his seat in the drawing room.
“How is that connected with the current issue? Hughes, I want you to chase after Angie’s carriage by foot and then declared your everlasting love!” Hughes stares at Cecil as if she had lost her mind and then shook his head.
“First my dear vexing sister, it is not wise to chase after a carriage by foot, by the time I reach her, I will be too exhausted to speak and dying for air. Second, I don’t think I should be selfish as to speak of my love and expecting her to return it. What if she wouldn’t return the sentiment?” Cecil eyed him in disgust and then blink, not believing what she had heard.
