Darkness. I must have drifted off without realizing it. Quietly lifting myself off the ground I make my way to the window, careful not to disturb David's sleeping Body. Through the faint glow of the moonlight I stand on tiptoes to peer out.
Warm air squeezes through the cracks warming my face. I clasp my hands in front of my mouth to stifle the surprise as I really take a closer look outside. The world beyond the cell was drastically different. A volcanic mountain range stood proud in the distance, with scattered places of lush, colorful, vegetation and trees.
Blinking to adjust my field of vision I catch a glimpse of five tall pillars through the haze. One pulsed a pure white light illuminating the night sky like a beacon. Before I can make out the exact shape a familiar face popped into my window.
Stumbling backwards, a silent scream escaped my lips. Chancing a second look, I peek back into the window like a timid mouse, fingers at the ready to shield my eyes if need be. I nearly faint at the person outside.
Standing like a mirrored image of myself, stood my supposedly dead mother. Pressing a finger to her lips she effortlessly removed the glass pane.
Reaching through the bars she held out a clenched fist, waiting for me to accept the gift she had to offer.
Instead of complying, I simply stand, ridged, unable to comprehend how she was standing there. Instead of rejoicing, I narrow my hidden eyes in suspicion. Glancing back at the pitch black room, something tugs in the back of my mind. Clothes rustle, and I glance back at the still extended arm as she tries to reoffer whatever remained hidden in her fist. It was urgent, and a little forceful, as she looked at me desperately.
Hesitantly I pry my fingers away and stare at her fiery blue eyes. They held a fierce spirit, nothing at all like the calm of water. Reluctantly I accepted her gift. Overlapping our warm hands she curled my fingers around a chilled metal.
"Keep it safe, and it will keep you safe." Mom talks but her mouth never moved. I simply blink in surprise, still too shocked to move further. Thoughts of dreaming cross my mind. It would explain why I'm seeing the dead.
Glancing up at her smiling face I finally allow myself to be grateful that I at least got to see my mother one last time. Papa would die for this opportunity and I was too frozen to do anything.
"What happened to you mama?" I ask and like her I never felt my lips move.
"My precious Marcy, all in do time. Our paths will cross again and everything will become clear." She smiled, running her warmed hands through my hair, the strands separating with ease.
Our reunion was short lived as a loud noises echo behind her. Casting a worried, longingly look in my direction she vanished before my very eyes in a flash of red light. Stumbling blind, I trip over something and plunge back into darkness.

Sorry it was short but a dream context had to be established. Either way, what do you think Mama gave her?
