Chapter 1
Don't Wet Your Spandex!"Help!" I spun around to face the burning house once more. Gold and I had already rescued the mayor himself, as well as his wife and two children. But as I recalled, there was still one child left inside.
"Gold!" I yelled as he started to rid his cape of ashes. I've reminded my boyfriend many times before that a cape was a safety hazard and that he shouldn't wear one, but he still insisted, claiming that it wouldn't makes sense if he wasn't to wear a cape because of his name. Gold Cape.
He stopped what he was doing and whipped around to face me. "Yeah?"
"There's still someone left!" I exclaimed, pointing in the direction of the house. I could hear sirens wailing in the distance, but they were much to faint for help to be there anytime soon.
"There is?" He questioned, his face confused as he turned back to the house. Once more, I could hear a small voice calling for help.
"Oh, there is!" Right away, he dashed back into the house with me hot on his trail.
"Why does Static have to be such a pain?" I muttered. Static - the city's newfound Super who, unfortunately, had to be a villain. A very cruel villain, may I add, causing trouble for not only the humans but his fellow Supers. But what scared me the most is that no one knew a thing about him.
By now, the main floor was full of smoke, which stung my lungs. I covered my mouth as I heard Gold coughing from just a few feet before me.
"GG, can you shield us?" I nodded, opening my fists and forcing a blue wave to escape my fingers, forming a bubble around the two of us and blocking the smoke from entering our lungs.
"That's better," I could hear the smirk in his voice as I quickly followed him up the stairs.
"Help!" I heard another cry coming from the end of the hallway. I followed after Gold as he kicked down the door, revealing a small girl, 7 years at the most I presumed, sitting on her bed and clutching her sheets tight.
Her dark and heated face lit up at the scene of us. "Gold Cape! Gone Girl!" She cheered, looking between the two of us.
"Hey sweetie," I greeted her with a smile, "what's your name?"
"Margret," she told us proudly, sticking out her chest. I smiled at her childishness.
"Alright, don't worry, we'll get you out of here." She nodded enthusiastically as Gold picked her up in his arms and covered her with her blankets.
We turned back around and faced the burning hallway. "I'm scared," Margret said just before we stepped out of her room, her smile now gone. Gold and I both shared a look before giving her a comforting smile.
"I know you are, Margret," I told her, "sometimes us Supers get scared too. But the only thing you can do now is be brave, okay?" She nodded worriedly.
"We gotta go," Gold said and I turned my shield back on. We turned around to run back down the stairs, but the floor in front of us had suddenly collapsed. I couldn't help but feel like Peter Parker.
"You've got to be kidding me," I heard Gold mutter as he shifted Margret in his arms so that she couldn't see what just happened.
"Fly yourself and Margret down. Try not to hit anything," I told Gold.
"What about you?" He asked me worriedly.
