Chapter 4

Peter shied away from the crowd, sticking close to Teresa as she weaves her way down the hall and to the bullpen. Instead of taking Peter to school Teresa had decided to take him to work instead. Considering he had attempted not to long ago because of school, it made no sense to send him back. Then again, she couldn't just let him stay at home by himself. So, it was agreed that he would go to the CBI with her.

Upon arrival she begins introductions.

"Van Pelt, Rigsby, Cho, this is Peter.", she starts, getting Jane's attention. He looks at her with disapproval but she continues regardless. "He will be accompanying us on our case today."

The team exchange looks, was it right to bring a teenager to a crime scene?

"Are you sure this is alright?", Grace asks, shooting Lisbon a look of confusion. "Boss he's just a kid. The new case we have today is pretty bloody."

"I can take it", Peter whispers, "I play horror games all the time."

"I agree with Grace," Jane chimes in, "Peter is to young for this, we shouldn't have him here."

"You are only saying that because you can't handle the fact that Peter is my son.", she snaps at Jane, "I still can't believe that after telling you the truth you still leave me! But regardless, Peter is staying wether you disagree or not."

"He's your son!?", Rigsby says in shock, even Cho looks surprised. "I never knew that!"

"It's a long story, for now let's just focus on the case. Have all of you gone to the crime scene yet?"

"Not yet, it's at a museum though."

With this Peter brightens up, the museum was only the most amazing place to be!

"Let's go then!", he exclaims excitedly, "Which exhibit is the body in?"

"Um, the Aztec one?", Grace says more confused then ever at Peters behavior.

"Yes! I know all about those guys! Come on let's go already!"

----

The crime scene was brutal to say the least. A young, teenage girl had been killed and the exhibit broken into. Artifacts had been stolen and whoever did this had taken the time to carve out her heart before leaving. Teresa kneeled down to the where the victim lay, unsettled by her seemingly calm demeanor.

"The manager of the museum claimed to hear screaming and he found her like this." Grace explained choosing not to look at the girl. "He claims that this must be a robbery since things were stolen."

"What was stolen? Was it a jar? Or a obsidian knife?"

Grace blinks in surprise at Peter's sudden questioning but admits that it's both. Jane could feel the excitement coming off Peter in waves but the teenager kept it to himself as much as he could. This was a murder after all. Jane walks around the room noticing the shelves lined with artifacts broken into. None of the treasures were crushed which meant that whoever this was, wasn't a thief. Jane turns to see the victim, she had been laid down funeral style and there were abrasions on her neck as if she was strangled before 'it' happened. The victim was wearing a plain white summer dress and her red hair had been curled-this looked a lot like-"

"It's a sacrifice.", Peter explains, "The Aztecs had this ritual where they take the most innocent girl and carve out her heart, it's with an obsidian knife, and put the heart in a jar.", Peter notices his mother's questioning look and he looks at the floor. "Sorry, I don't mean to bother you it's just something I read."

"No it's okay, what about you Jane do you have any ideas?"

"Well I don't know Teresa, do I? It seems to me you're son has all the answers."

"Oh dear Lord, Peter no matter what Jane tells you don't listen to him. He's just being bitter."

"I'm bitter? You're the one who expects me to completely cast aside the fact that you've been lying for years."

Peter exchanges looks with his mother, what was going to happen next? Teresa notes his discomfort and instead of giving into arguing with Jane she instead breaks up the team, sending Jane away with Rigsby and Cho to arrest/interrogate the manager. Grace, Teresa, and Peter were the only ones left.

The awkwardness of the situation sank in and Grace tries her best to get rid of the tension, "So Peter, why don't you tell me more about the Aztecs."

With this the boy lightens up, his love for history finally coming to some use.

"What do you want to know?"
