Chapter 5
"What the hell is wrong with you!?"
"Nothing's wrong with me, I'm fine. I just wish I knew that, you know, you have a son."
Lisbon groans, Jane was being a pill. What was going on with him!? She told him everything and confessed her love to him so why did he have to act this way? After a long day of investigating, everyone returned to the CBI. There was paper work to be done and suspects to be crossed out, seeing Jane retreat to the kitchen Teresa had made her way to him.
"Well that's great because for a minute there I thought you might be supportive. That you might listen. But sure Jane, act like a child, forget that I love you regardless of your vengeful behavior, addiction to Devils cherry, self hate, and sleepless nights."
"That's not fair! You can't use that-"
"Why are you upset? You said it yourself-you're fine."
Teresa leaves him standing there, alone and confused, and makes her way to her office and opens the door to find Peter having a fit. He was crying and furiously tearing off his bandages making her panic and run to him.
"Peter!"
"Leave me alone!", he sobs uncontrollably, his mother wrapping him in her arms. There was so much pain and sadness that Peter gasped as he cried, shaking and choking on tears. Teresa holds him tighter in her arms, not knowing what to do.
"I'm going home tomorrow," Peter panics, nearly hyperventilating., "I have to face Ryan again! My parents will hate me! I-I can't do this. I can't do this! I should just disappear."
In that moment she begins to cry with him, the thought of losing her son was unbearable.
"Please don't, Peter please you can't!", she begins to beg, "Life gets better, I'll help you every step of they way but please Peter- don't do it. I can't lose you twice!"
-----
Hearing Teresa cry immediatly grabs Jane's attention, what was going on? Was this because of him? Setting down his tea he unlocks the door to her office and is shocked at what he sees: Teresa crying over Peter who she is holding in her arms. Peter's loose bandages and ugly scars said it all. Before the two of them notice, Jane quietly leaves her office and carefully closes the door. He couldn't be mad at her anymore, she was only trying to save her son. This situation was more sensitive then Jane thought.
----
Both mother and son were emotionally worn, exhausted from their pain. After things calmed down Teresa actually helped Peter remove his bandages. He had pulled at the so hard that the gauze was ruined and would have to be replaced.
"I'm really hungry.", Peter whispers, empty from tears.
"Alright, I have a sandwich in the kitchen's fridge. Come back and I'll take you home- I mean my apartment."
He nods and makes his way to the CBI's kitchen, not caring if anyone sees his scars. He was done. Grace looks up to greet him but gasps when she sees the agitated scars causing Rigsby to turn to see what scared her and notice the cuts.
"Peter! Are you okay?", Grace asks and is about to get up from her desk when Peter just shrugs in reply, not having it in him to answer. Cho shoots a questioning look in Peter's direction but the boy makes a hasty retreat to the kitchen, not knowing how to handle their worry. No one cared about him, so why should they? Isn't he nothing?
"Whose hurting you? Who is making you do this?" Rigsby had followed Peter into the kitchen, fearful that the young boy would try to find a knife.
"I don't want to talk about it. Just leave me alone."
"Peter-"
"Go away alright? I'm not going for a knife my mom is letting me have her sandwich I'm just hungry okay?"
"Leave the boy alone," Jane, who has appeared out of nowhere, casually suggests. "He clearly needs a break from all of the questions."
Rigsby makes a mental note to talk to the boy later, maybe Jane was right. It could be that Peter just needed a moment to himself. "If you need to talk, Grace, Cho and I are always here."
"Oh um...alright. Thanks?" The sudden kindness put him off guard, why was everyone so concerned about him? Why did they care? It was strange and it made him nervous.
"By the way," Patrick continues after Rigsby leaves, "Are you into Japanese history? It might be good to branch out of the Aztecs for a while."
This catches Peter's attention, the Japan exhibit in the museum was breathtakingly amazing. It had paintings, artifacts, statues, and even samurai armor. "Is the museum still open?"
"Who knows, would you like to check it out?"
"Well I...I don't want to be a burden."
"You're not a burden, go tell Teresa and then I'll take you there."
"Okay!"
The best cure for depression? Obviously what the person is the most obsessed with. He was such a nerd.
