Splat! There goes another one of Syndey’s special Sunday pancakes. I swear she is soo useless, she can’t do anything. I mean come on, even I can make pancakes better than her and I’m fifteen years younger than her not to mention a GUY. Oh I should probably introduce myself quickly. Hi! I’m Michael Evergreen and I am seventeen years old. I have a younger sister and a younger brother. My sister is fifteen, her name is Jade and my brother is ummm, oh yeah twelve. His name is Shaynon. As you can probably tell I’m not so close to my brother, actually now that I think about it neither is my sister. He kind of just stays in his own little world, completely oblivious to what’s going on around him, I think. You can’t exactly blame me; he never talks, not to us anyway. Whereas my sister and I are really close. I’d do anything for her and she’d do the same for me. What’s that saying, we’re as thick as thin or something like that.

Our mum died three and a half years ago. That kinda made my sister and I even closer than we already were. Nobody knows how my mum died exactly. Her car was found at the bottom of a very deep river, river dare. (I have no idea why it’s called that so please don’t ask) A week later her body was found, but not whole. Pieces of her body were found in different places around the town. The worst thing is that because the body was found in pieces the police couldn’t figure out who did it, and there were absolutely no witnesses so the case had to be closed. She died on her thirty-third birthday. Our mum’s murder was in the paper for weeks and then eventually the commotion died down. My mum was an amazing, kind and sweet woman who everyone knew and loved. Many people were saddened by her death. My family and I were mourning for longer than I could remember. It was the most heart wrenching incident ever for many of us. It took us a while to get over it and for our hearts and mind to process that it actually happened.

And that’s were Syndey comes in. Our dad met her shortly after we started to move on and six months later they were married. We all call her by her name and she understands why. It’s because you don’t just call anyone mum, being called mum is a privilege. You call a person who loves and cares for you more than herself mum, a person who would walk to the ends of the earth for you, a person who you love soo much you never want to let her go, a person who you would be lost without, who you could never forget. A person who knows you , understands you, who feels you, who knows how to comfort you & when you need to be comforted. A person who sacrifices themselves for you, who can never be replaced and who you love most, more than anything in this world. That’s who you call mum and as nice as she is Syndey just isn’t my mum and neither will she ever be. She is thirty one years old and she cannot cook. She’s getting lessons from my sister.

Its our first day back to school today after the summer break and if Syndey doesn't hurry up and acctually cook the food then were going to be late, and we absolutely hate being late. I guess we got that from our mum. She always hated to be late and taught us never to be late and to always have a very good attendance.

Thank goodness, Jade’s finally realised the time and taken over from Syndey. I have to admit Jade is quite a good cook, I actually really like her food. No offence, but it is definitely nicer than Syndey’s. “Here you go boys. Enjoy, but enjoy quickly otherwise we’re going to be late.” Jade's right if we don’t hurry we’re going to be really late. She handed my brother and I our pancakes and then sat down to eat herself. We all finished as quickly as we could and then left for school. Shayne (my brother’s nickname) goes to a different school round the block, Jade and my school is a little far so we have to run to school.

Phew! We got here just in time, the first bell just rang. Jade and I have first period mixed science together so we're heading that way now.

“Hey guys, how was your holiday?" Jennette asked.

Personally, I think she's a little weird but she's Jade's best friend, other than me of course. Jade and I always do everything together so Jennette is kind of my friend to. The same way Ty is also Jade's friend because he's my best friend. All four of us hang out together all the time, so all four of us are kind of best friends.

"It was......relaxing, how about yours?" Jade answered. It’s a good thing Jade answered her because I forgot she was even here.

“My holiday was amazing. My dad took my brothers camping and bought me and my mum tickets to Rome, It’s such a beautiful place. You guys should totally go there. Jade it is soo your type of place, it reminded me of you the whole time. Oh and Michael the architecture there is absolutely prodigious. It’s the perfect place for you both, you’d both love it.” Did I tell you that Jennette talks a lot? No. Well she does. When she starts she never stops.

“Uh, yeah sorry to interrupt you but if we don’t shoot to class we’re gonna be late.” I didn’t say it in a rude way; it’s just that if I didn’t stop her we’d be here way past last period.

“Uh, yeah sorry, I’ll see you guys at lunch.” She doesn’t sound very hurt which means she’s fine and hasn’t taken it the wrong way. Jade’s giving me the evil which means I must have sounded rude.

“Come on.” I grab her arm and drag her to class while she continues to give me the evil. I’m deliberately avoiding looking at her face because her evil look seriously scares me. If I look at her then the next thing I’ll know is I’ll be running after Jennette apologizing to her until she sincerely forgives me.
