"Change is inevitable. Change is constant."
Today isn't Sunday (it's Friday), but I'm at church, and I should be more attentive to Pastor Richards quoting Disraeli for cliché purposes.
It would help if you didn't sleep.
I'm...in deep prayer.
"Change shapes us."
The creaks and pops of the seats. The random grunt from congested members of the magical congregation. And the pastor and his voice. See? I'm listening. I'm...
You jerked. You're falling asleep. It's Kenzie's graduation.
So, why has this guy been preaching for the last two million years? He's not the principal or a teacher. He just runs the nearby church.
Stephen!
"Our growth..."
I open my eyes and glance to the left. I see her dad.
And her.
I'm looking right at Mackenzie Carder's future self, from the hair to the calm smirk on her face. I haven't seen her since last December when Kenzie talked to her about...Arbourton.
Isn't this great, Stephen?
For Kenzie. Her mom's back for a limited time only because it's her big high school graduation ceremony (anytime now!).
Me?

Found deep in the middle of the valley, Craisville's a far cry from the mass amount of city like Hoboken and not fancy like Arbourton. It's a town built on steel and brick, with ruddy streets and small shops. On the bus ride in, you can see the ghosts of its scattered factories. More than Portersburgh's eastern side. That's because Craisville was one of the all-stars during The Country's industrial boom years ago.
Gone but not forgotten.
I wave to the river we go over on our entry into town.
The factories would make great apartments.
As historic as it might be, I'll take the oceanic city skyline over hills. Geoff will take Craisville, though. Our golden goalkeeper's sister goes to the college here, and I...think he said something about applying, too. I don't know. I've been thinking about winning and last Thursday.
Can't get enough of your new girlfriend, can you?
"Girlfriend" is a weird word. Whenever I think of it and Kenzie in the same sentence, I...I guess I'm not used to it.
What?
We are official, right?
What do you think? After you got home, you went downstairs and told Dad you had fun and not to tease you because you and her were going to see what happens and you—
Okay! Shut up!
How about just calling her Kenzie?
