The Great Mare Detective

Chapter 2

A carriage traveled into Ponyville, and then stopped at its destination, and out stepped a stallion with pale, light grayish olive mane, moderate sap green eyes, light freckles on the cheeks, and three red apples for his cutie mark named Dr. Applejack or Dr. AJ for short. Dr. AJ was trying to find a place to live, but then he heard sniffling, and crying. He looked in an alley to find Apple Bloom sitting near a large garbage can, and crying. "Oh! Oh, my!" Dr. AJ said in shock and concern. "Are ya'll all right, sugarcube?" Apple Bloom just looked at the doctor, because she was too upset to answer. "Come now, come, come. Here, dry your eyes." Dr. AJ said as he gave her a hooferchief. Apple Bloom took it and blew her nose into it. She gave it back to Dr. AJ who placed it in his bag. "Ah, yes, that's better." He said as he sat down next to Apple Bloom. "Now tell me, what's troubling ya'll, sugarcube?" "Ah...Ah'm lost. A-A-Ah'm trying to find Bubble Berry of Ponyville." Apple Bloom said. "He lives in Sugarcube Corner, but Ah don't know where it is." She then gave Dr. AJ a newspaper article with Bubble Berry's picture on it. "Famous pony dectective solves baffiling disappearence." Dr. AJ said as he read the article. "Mmm, hmmm. But where are your Ma and Pa?"

Getting upset, Apple Bloom said "That's why Ah m-m-must find Bubble Berry!" She then started crying again as Dr. AJ tried to calm the sad filly down, and said "There, there, there. Now, now, now. We'll Ah don't know any Bubble Berry." Apple Bloom looked at Dr. AJ with her sad puppy-eyed look. Dr. AJ smiled, and said "But Ah do remember where Sugarcube Corner is." Apple Bloom's face brightened up a bit as Dr. AJ took out his orange umbrella from his bag, and opened it while the sky started to rain. "Now come with me. We'll find this Bubble Berry fellow together." They then began to walk together to Sugarcube Corner. Five minutes later, they reached their destination. Dr. AJ knocked on the door, and the door opened to reveal an elderly earth pony with a light gray mane, light brilliant orange eyes, an apple pie for her cutie mark, and an orange scarf with red apples, and white frills on it wrapped around her neck named Granny Smith who was carrying books, blankets, pillows, a teacup, and a medieval mace. Dr. AJ tipped his hat, and said "Howdy, madam. Is this the residence of Bubble Berry of Ponyville?"

Granny Smith nodded, and said "Ah'm afraid it is. He's not here at the moment, but ya'll are welcome to come in, and wait." "Oh, A-Ah don't want to impose." Dr. AJ said. "It's just the filly..." Dr. AJ looked beside him, only to find that Apple Bloom already ran inside, and ran upstairs to a room. Dr. AJ and Granny Smith went inside and went upstairs to see her sitting near by a fireplace examining a magnifying glass with intrest. Granny Smith gave Dr. AJ the stuff she was holding, rushed to Apple Bloom's side, and said "Oh my! You poor dear! You must be chilled to the bone!" She gave her a warm blanket to wrap herself in, and said "Oh, ho ho ho, but Ah know just the thing! Let me fetch you a pot of tea, and some of mah fresh apple muffins!" She then ran out of the room and into the kitchen. Apple Bloom looked around the room filled with a small propeller operating a bellow, and attached to that are filled with pipes, all of which are puffing, four differents pairs of shoes turned in a circular motion, first being brushed with black paint, and a print on a stack of paper.

Dr. AJ hung his orange jacket he wore earlier on a rack, but then he heard a voice that said "Ah-ha! The villain's slipped this time! I shall have him!" The door bursted open to reveal a stallion wearing a Mysterious Mare Do-Well costume. He smiled triumphantly with a party cannon in his hooves as lightening strikes. Dr. AJ was petrified as the stallion ran inside, rushing towards one of the many tables as he said "Out of my way! Out of my way!" "Ah say, who-!" Dr. AJ tried to say, but he lost train of thought when the stallion's hat was thrown, and landed on his head. He took it off, and said "Who are ya'll?" "What?" The stallion asked as he turned to Dr. AJ. "Oh!" He took off his costume to reveal himself as Bubble Berry. "Bubble Berry of Ponyville, my good fellow." He said as he smiled at Dr. AJ's confused stare. Apple Bloom was relieved to see him. She went up to him and said "Mr. Berry! Ah need your help, and Ah-!" She didn't finish her sentence as put his pink house robe on.

He threw a dart over his shoulder, scoring a direct bull's eye on the board and said "All in good time." "But-But ya'll don't understand!" Apple Bloom said. "Ah'm in terrible trouble!" "If you'll excuse me." Bubble Berry said as he went past the filly who sighed. Dr. AJ stepped in, and said "Here, now, now. Now see here! This young filly is in need of assistance, Ah think you ought..." He lost his train of thought when Bubble Berry gave him the party cannon, and said "Will you hold this please, doctor?" "Of course." Dr. AJ said as he held the party cannon nervously. He then looked at Bubble Berry, and said "Ah, wait just a moment! How did ya'll know I was a doctor?" "A surgeon, to be exact." Bubble Berry said as he stuffed the party favors into the party cannon. "Just returned from military duty in Dodge Junction. Am I right?" "Why, yes." Dr. AJ said as he chuckled. "Major Dr. AJ. But how could ya'll possibly-" Bubble Berry interuppted him, and said "Quite simple really."

Bubble Berry held a stitched right sleeve, and said "You've sewn your torn cuff together with the lembert stitch, which of course, only a surgeon uses." As he gathered some pillows, he said "And the thread is a unique form of catgut distinguished by it's-!" He then whispered to Apple Bloom as he said "peculiar pungency." Apple Bloom just became confused as Bubble Berry said "And only found in the Dodge Junction provinces." Bubble Berry gathered three pillows and gave them to Dr. AJ who said "Amazing!" "Actually...it's elementary, my dear AJ." Bubble Berry said as he spun the party cannon, and aimed it at the pillows. Dr. AJ paniced, and placed the pillows onto an armchair. He then took Apple Bloom and hid behind the chair. Bubble Berry fired the party cannon, and the pillow feathers fly as Dr. AJ and Apple Bloom cautiously peeked out.

Granny Smith rushed into the room, and said "What in Equestria's name?" She spotted her shot pillows, spitted out several feathers out and said "Oh! Oh! My-My good pillows!" She glared at Bubble Berry who was kneeling in the chair, and tossing the feathers aside. "Mr. Berry!" Granny Smith said as she spitted more feathers out. "How many times have Ah told you-!" Bubble Berry poped his head above the chair, interuppted her, and said "There, there, Mrs. Smith, it's quite alright." He sniffed and said "Ah, mmm! I believe I smell some of those delightful apple muffins of yours." He gently pushed her out of the room, and said "Why don't you fetch our guests some?" "But, ah, but, but-!" Granny Smith tried to say, but Bubble Berry slammed the door in her face. "Now..." Bubble Berry said as he got down on his hooves, and searched on the floor for a kazoo. "I know that kazoo's here somewhere-!" He looked up to see Apple Bloom holding the purple kazoo. She gave it to him as he said "Thank you, Miss..." "Bloom." Apple Bloom said smiling. "Apple Bloom." Bubble Berry rolled his eyes, and said "Whatever."

"Yes, but ya'll don't understand-!" Apple Bloom tried to say, but Bubble Berry silenced her, and said "Shhh!" He then opened a small, red box, and pulled out another kazoo. He took the one he fired, placed them under a microscope, and started to compare their markings. He turned the kazoos, and the markings match. "Yes!" Bubble Berry said as he turned the kazoos to find more matching markings. "Yes!" He turned the kazoos to find that the markings go off in seperate directions. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Bubble Berry cried out in distress. "Drat!" He slammed his head on the desk as he became depressed and said "Another dead end." He walked over to his chair, and said "He was within my grasp." He flopped onto the chair, slowly reached for his violin, and started to play it.
