Chapter 5:
Pregnant Woman's Jeopardy
(—)Pacifica.
After eating lunch, just like the twins instructed, we went to the Police Station.
The smell of morning coffee and donuts greeted us, despite the fact that it was already noon. Only a few officers were in sight—maybe most of them were taking their break—but Officer Durland went near us and led us to a dark corner.
I would've been suspicious if not for the other people around. Some looked terrible; others looked like they could kill. Most of them, I guess, were hungry for justice.
"The Pines twins told us you come in handy," Officer Durland said. "Bad thing my best bud couldn't get to see you today. But, ah... yeah. You could replace the twins since they're sort of busy today."
Gideon scoffed. He doesn't like being treated as a replacement. So do I, of course, but I let it slide. Plus, it seems that doing the twins' job is something we should be grateful for. Back in California, the police would've just shooed us away instead of letting us help.
We stopped when we reached a matte black door. There wasn't any label here unlike the other doors.
"Good luck," he said before turning around.
Gideon knocked thrice. No one answered, but the door opened for itself. A view of an Inspector holding a remote greeted us. His eyes were smiling, but his lips stayed flat.
My gaze averted from the door to the remote. "Did you just—"
"Control the door with this mere remote?" He cut off. "Why, yes."
Gideon whistled, his eyes roaming around the room. I couldn't blame him—that was amazing. Who knew such thing exists? In Reverse Falls, even! The door itself was alone to amaze me, plus, the room was filled with advanced technology.
Everything was almost black. The walls were dark gray, trimmed with black, of course. In the farthest corner were book shelves and a small desk holding a mug of coffee. In front of a table with a nameplate I couldn't read, there were two black seats.
Others were things I couldn't name, because it looks like those were only invented yesterday.
"Please, take a seat," he said. "I'm Inspector Alfred Fletcher. You two must be the duo Mabel has mentioned."
We both sat on lovely cushioned seats. Gid slowly rubbed the left arm of the chair. "Only Mabel Pines?"
Inspector Fletcher smiled. "You must know that Dipper isn't really into converse and speech, but don't worry, they've said pretty good things about you two."
