I never fell asleep. I was close at one point, but I needed to stay awake and take care of Papa. He didn't sleep while taking care of me, so I should return the favor. I know he would probably throw a fit if he knew I was doing that, but I had to. I loved him so much. Why would I NOT help him?
He coughed lightly sometimes, but never seemed to awaken within that half hour.
I was also very grateful to Farkas and Vilkas. They were so pleasant...and their bickering made me laugh. They didn't ask too many questions. I guess they just wanted me to calm down after all that excitement with the wolves.
After a while, we came to the Whiterun stables. There were many horses, all in a variety of sizes and colors. If I wasn't taking care of Papa, I would go to see them. Maybe Papa and I can see them together when he gets better.
Vilkas pulled over the cart.
"So what's in the box, lad?" he asked me while hopping down from the driver's seat.
"Papa's mama. No one can open it though. Papa doesn't want anyone to touch her."
"Ah. Were you bringing her to the Hall of the Dead here in Whiterun? To be buried?"
"No, we were taking her to Falkreath."
Farkas climbed on the back to pick up Papa. "Falkreath huh? You've still got a while to go," he said.
"I don't mind," I replied, taking Papa's hand as he was on Farkas' back. "I like traveling with Papa."
Vilkas chuckled. "You must love him very much."
I nodded. Papa still hadn't woken up, and that, of course, worried me, but periodically, his hand would flinch and squeeze mine.
"Take him right to Arcadia," Vilkas said to Farkas. "I'll tell the stable master to take precious care of his mother. You go along with them Dovah."
"Okay."
He smiled at me and pat my head. "Don't worry," he added. "Arcadia is one of the best at what she does. Your papa will be in good hands."
I held tight to Papa's hand and Farkas started walking. Whiterun was so beautiful on the outside; it made me wonder what the inside looked like. I wished Papa was awake to look at it with me.
A little way from the stables, there is an enormous arch and on top of it there were two guards. Continuing, there were watch towers looking out over the plains. As we made a U-turn around a rise in the ground, there was a draw bridge underneath another arch. More guards were on top of the arch looking down on us. We made one more left just beyond the arch and we came to a very large set of doors with a guard on either side.
"Hail, Companion," one said to Farkas.
He nodded in response. "Mind opening the door? My arms are full."
"Of course."
The guard opened the door just enough to walk through, but stopped us for a moment.
"I just thought I'd let you know since you weren't here..."
"Know what?" Farkas asked.
"There was a dragon attack."
Farkas looked at him in disbelief. "...what?"
